        Jill Marshall is the author of the popular middle-grade series about Sensational Spylet, Jane Blonde, and many other titles and series for tweens, teens, YA and adult.   Jill’s books have been published by Macmillan Children’s Books, Penguin and Hachette, in 22 countries, 11 languages and paperback, ebook and audio formats. Jane Blonde has been optioned for film and TV, with significant film interest in other Jill Marshall titles. Jill has also been an editor and manuscript assessor for trade publishers and societies, a creative writing teacher for over 1000 clients, and works in corporate communications.   During lockdown in 2020, and with all rights for all titles successfully re-acquired, Marshall fulfilled two long-term ambitions. The first – to create an independent publishing house of her own titles, rebranded and re-imagined for a digital world. The second – to pull together Jane Blonde and three other ‘superhero’ characters, all with their own origin series, into an ensemble series, S*W*A*G*G (swaggbooks.com). The third ambition was one that she couldn’t have foreseen: the wish to provide quality fiction for tween readers and upwards, in readily accessible digital formats and for free, in a world ravaged by a global pandemic.   In May 2020, Jill Marshall Books was born, and all three ambitions met. Dies ist die Grundidee dieses Romans: menschlicher Glauben, Vergessen, Erinnern, und die Quintessenz des Lebens in einer unmöglichen Epoche. Obwohl der Ausgangspunkt des Romans eine Beschreibung der frühen Kindheit Adolf Hitlers ist, geht Frau Grubers Lager viel weiter, als nur eine Geschichte zu erzählen, die in vielerlei Hinsicht Parallelen zu Geschichte der europäischen Juden hat. Vielmehr wird ein Gleichnis der menschlichen Erfahrung im zwanzigsten Jahrhundert durch die Augen eines zeitgenössischen Helden des einundzwanzigsten Jahrhunderts entfaltet. Les coqs, en tant qu’êtres humains, sont seulement des visiteurs momentanés dans un scenario bien plus étendu, dont la signification est trop élevée pour eux pour la saisir (mis à part le vieux coq Ba Ba Loop qui, à l’instar des prophètes d’antan, a des yeux pour voir, mais ne possède pas le pouvoir de changer quoi que ce soit). La seule manière d’apporter une signification à des temps d’une horreur telle est de tout investir pour la mémoire, ce qui constitue le cadre dans lequel ce roman est fondé : la foi en l’homme, oublier, se souvenir et l’essence de la vie au sein d’une époque impossible. Bien que se démarquant d'une description, principalement évoquée, de la petite enfance d'Adolf Hitler, Le camp de Frau Gruber ne se contente pas de raconter une histoire qui est, en de nombreux points, parallèle à l'histoire du judaïsme européen. Ce livre se transforme, au contraire, en une fable sur l'expérience vécue par l’humanité entière au XXème siècle, écrite à travers les yeux du XXIème siècle comme une bravade contemporaine. L'auteur, Ted Barr, 54 ans, a une maîtrise en économie et des diplômes dans des zones d'intérêt variées, y compris l'histoire allemande, le symbolisme, les tactiques de bataillon et de division, ainsi qu’en astronomie. Barr est un artiste de renom, spécialisé dans les galaxies et autres éléments du ciel.         Wystan Hugh Auden wurde am 21. Februar 1907 in York, England geboren. Er ist vor allem für seine Lyrik bekannt. Nach dem Studium in Oxford verbrachte er einige Zeit in Deutschland, u.a. lebte er mit seinem damaligen Freund Christopher Isherwood einige Monate in Berlin. Auden interessierte sich sehr für das politische Geschehen seiner Zeit und kämpfte im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg. 1935 heiratete er Thomas Manns Tochter Erika, um ihr die Ausreise aus dem nationalsozialistischen Deutschland zu ermöglichen. Er selbst siedelte 1939 in die USA über, nahm später die amerikanische Staatsbürgerschaft an und lehrte an verschiedenen Universitäten. Neben seiner bekannten und viel zitierten Lyrik verfaßte er auch einige Dramen, Kritiken und Essays, und schrieb Libretti für verschiedene Komponisten, wie Igor Strawinsky, Hans Werner Henze und Nicholas Nabokov. 1948 wurde Auden für Zeitalter der Angst (The Age of Anxiety) von 1947 mit dem Pulitzerpreis gewürdigt. Inspiriert von diesem Werk komponierte Leonard Bernstein seine gleichnamige Sinfonie. W. H. Auden starb am 29. September 1973 in Wien. Rüdiger Görner, geb. 1957, Studium der Germanistik, Geschichte, Anglistik und Philosophie an der Universität Tübingen und am University College, University of London; lebt als Literaturwissenschaftler, Schriftsteller und Kritiker seit 1981 in London. 1997-2004 Professur für German Literature an der Aston University in Birmingham sowie von 1999-2004 Director des Institute of Germanic Studies und Gründer des Ingeborg-Bachmann Centre for Austrian Literature, University of London. Seit 2004 Professor für neuere deutsche Literatur und Gründungsdirektor des Centre for Anglo-German Cultural Relations am Queen Mary College, University of London. Zahlreiche Publikationen zu Literatur und Musik, u.a. zu Thomas Mann, Rilke, Nietzsche und Mozart.

        Air policing was used in many colonial possessions, but its most effective incidence occurred in the crescent of territory from north-eastern Africa, through South-West Arabia, to North West Frontier of India. This book talks about air policing and its role in offering a cheaper means of 'pacification' in the inter-war years. It illuminates the potentialities and limitations of the new aerial technology, and makes important contributions to the history of colonial resistance and its suppression. Air policing was employed in the campaign against Mohammed bin Abdulla Hassan and his Dervish following in Somaliland in early 1920. The book discusses the relationships between air control and the survival of Royal Air Force in Iraq and between air power and indirect imperialism in the Hashemite kingdoms. It discusses Hugh Trenchard's plans to substitute air for naval or coastal forces, and assesses the extent to which barriers of climate and geography continued to limit the exercise of air power. Indigenous responses include being terrified at the mere sight of aircraft to the successful adaptation to air power, which was hardly foreseen by either the opponents or the supporters of air policing. The book examines the ethical debates which were a continuous undercurrent to the stream of argument about repressive air power methods from a political and operational perspective. It compares air policing as practised by other European powers by highlighting the Rif war in Morocco, the Druze revolt in Syria, and Italy's war of reconquest in Libya.

        "Das »Bacon-Projekt« definiert einen Grundzug der Moderne; während in der Antike die Erkenntnis der Natur als Selbstzweck galt, betrachtet sie die Neuzeit als ein Mittel zur Mehrung des allgemeinen Menschenwohls. Die Naturforschung soll die Entwicklung einer Technik ins Werk setzen und damit dem Menschen Machtmittel zur Verfügung stellen, durch die er sich aus materieller Not und Naturabhängigkeit befreien kann. Francis Bacon (1551-1626) war der Propagandist der neuen Zielbestimmung der Naturforschung. Die in den modernen Industrieländern praktizierte technische Form der Naturnutzung ist infolge der jetzt offenkundig werdenden Schädigungen an der Natur zunehmend unter Kritik geraten. Mit den Befunden der »ökologischen Krise« wird nicht nur auf die Bedrohlichkeit der Technikfolgeschäden hingewiesen, sondern es wird zugleich die neuzeitliche Art der Naturforschung für die absehbare Katastrophe verantwortlich gemacht. Hans Jonas hat deshalb verlangt, daß wir das »Baconsche Ideal« aufgeben und uns dem Gedanken der Bewahrung der Natur verschreiben. Nicht länger sollten Ziele und Zwecke des Menschen die Grundlage unseres Handelns gegenüber der Natur sein; das »Prinzip Verantwortung« gebiete vielmehr, die in der westlichen Zivilisation dominant gewesene »Anthropozentrik« zu verabschieden und die Eigenrechte der Natur in unserem Handeln zu respektieren. Gegen diese pauschale Beschuldigung der Moderne ist die vorliegende Studie gerichtet.         This book covers various aspects of the social history of politics on both sides of the Iron Curtain in the period 1945 to 1956. The contributors come from a range of countries (Austria, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia and the United Kingdom) and comprise a mixture of established historians and younger scholars engaged in pioneering research. The individual chapters are organised into four sections dealing with workers, ethnic and linguistic minorities, youth, and women. In order to enhance the comparative character of the volume, the four chapters contained in each section consider the position of these social groups in, respectively, West Germany, East Germany, Austria, and either Czechoslovakia or Hungary. Major themes include the absence of popular revolutions in the aftermath of World War Two, the re-imposition of social control by post-war elites, the attempt to restore pre-war gender relations, and the failure of Communist parties to win popular support. The chosen time-frame saw most of the decisive developments which set the pattern for the remaining Cold War period and is therefore of key importance for any student of this topic. ;
