Der Autor untersucht den Realitätsgehalt der offiziellen Selbstdarstellung von Industriegesellschaften und Dritter Welt. In theoretischer Analyse und mit Hilfe von Falluntersuchungen beschreibt er die Ideologiehaftigkeit gängiger wirtschaftswissenschaftlicher und wirtschaftspolitischer Doktrinen über Struktur und Funktionsweise der internationalen Ökonomie. Darüber hinaus prüft der Autor die Voraussetzungen einer Entwicklungspolitik, die ihr eigentliches Ziel: Befriedigung von Grundbedürfnissen der in sozialem Elend und absoluter Armut lebenden Menschen, erreicht.

Auch in strukturaler Perspektive darf man die Poetik und Ästhetik nicht auf bloße Deskription des formalen Textaufbaus oder der formalen Regeln des Codes reduzieren und der Suggestivkraft von deren relativer Autarkie und Dauerhaftigkeit erliegen. Ein solcher Ansatz verlöre aus dem Auge, daß das Kunstwerk ein Werk des Menschen ist, ein Produkt seiner schöpferischen Tätigkeit, ein Träger seiner Mitteilung, und daß diese Mitteilung von jemandem empfangen, verstanden und interpretiert werden muß. Für die Kunst ist vom Standpunkt der Semiotik aus charakteristisch, daß eine Spannung besteht zwischen der Bedeutung, die sich als spezifisch künstlerische erst im Ganzen der Struktur des Werkes konstituiert, und dem System ästhetischer Bedeutungsnormen, die im Bewußtsein der das Werk rezipierenden gesellschaftlichen Gruppe existieren. Der Text des Werkes, seine lautliche und graphische Schicht, ist die Voraussetzung für die Konkretisierung des Werkes auf dem Hintergrund eines bestimmten Systems von ästhetischen Normen und kulturellen Werten. Erst in diesem Prozeß der Konfrontation mit den bisherigen Erfahrungen einer Gesellschaft und eines Individuums entsteht das eigentliche »ästhetische Objekt«.

Stages and witnesses of the transformation in a region: from the natural tropical moorland, sea and ice age land, to the settlement and cultural land of early man, to the mining and industrial land and the new beginning, the transformation of a large region into a lake landscape.Today's man-made lake district is taking shape and becoming a global model and testing ground for the large-scale transformation of a post-mining landscape. The experiences of the Central German region become a global model case of wound healing of man-made, hostile landscape interventions and an opportunity to design in reverence and adaptation to "Mother Earth".
