The Riverdale Diaries, vol. 1: Hello, Betty!

        by Sarah Kuhn, J. Bone

Betty Cooper and her buddies from Archie's Riverdale are reimagined for middle-grade readers in this full-length, full-color graphic novel written by rising star Sarah Kuhn and drawn by critically acclaimed artist J. Bone!   Betty Cooper and Val Smith are best friends ready to start middle school. They've always done everything together – taken the same classes, played the same games, and created the world of Sparklespacelandia in Betty's backyard together – so naturally, Betty assumes they'll continue to be an unbreakable duo once the school year starts. But Val finds herself drawn toward pursuing a music elective, and does it without Betty at her side. Suddenly Betty's on her own for the first time since Val moved to the neighborhood, and she's struggling to deal with being lumped in with the loser drama class – that just happens to be dominated by snotty and powerful Veronica Lodge! Even the presence of other friends like Archie, Jughead, and Sabrina isn't making Betty feel better about her estrangement from Val. Will Betty and Val find a new way to connect, or has middle school ended their friendship for good?   Sarah Kuhn and J. Bone deliver an authentic and funny tale of middle-school life as they reimagine the iconic gang from Riverdale into contemporary middle-grade students. Full of lively dialogue and stunningly hilarious art, the dynamics of friendship and school struggles are as classic as the characters themselves – and fresh and engaging for today's readers.

        Sheeple

A political romantic comedy erotic crime drama thriller....with some sheep in it, obviously!

        by Andy Frazier

Some way into the future, when man has self-destructed, the world now populated solely by sheep. Yes, I know it sounds ridiculous but if you transpose a world full of sheep into the current world which is actually, er full of sheep – well people acting like sheep, anyway – you get SHEEPLE.  SHEEPLE After the holocaust, the only life left on earth was with a few simple sheep in one of its deepest corners. For a while it stayed that way but then, finding themselves at the top of the food chain, evolution nudged them on a little bit, until we catch up with them a millennium or so later. Now the evil Daynik and his sidekick run the world from the Ovine office with the help of a few Dollys, and everything is going ticketty-boo, thank you very much. Well it was, until a badly written novel started to create a stir amongst the Dolly ranks, who are now getting ideas. With reports of mutilation and hacking amongst the clones, the Burdoch Corporation printing true stories, and one of the back-benchers making noises about legalising grass, things start to get a bit out of hand for the Prime Muttoneer. Will our sheep-hero, Archie Woventight, uncover the cover-ups? Who really did write 50 Blades of Hay? Where is this Scoutland, where grass grows in meadows? And who is this mysterious Alex? A man?

Building an Electronic Records Archive at the National Archives and Records Administration

        Recommendations for Initial Development

by Committee on Digital Archiving and the National Archives and Records Administration, Robert F. Sproull and Jon Eisenberg, Editors, National Research Council

Like its constituent agencies and other organizations, the federal government generates and increasingly saves a large and growing fraction of its records in electronic form. Recognizing the greater and greater importance of these electronic records for its mission of preserving "essential evidence," the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) launched a major new initiative, the Electronic Records Archives (ERA). NARA plans to commence the initial procurement for a production-quality ERA in 2003 and has started a process of defining the desired capabilities and requirements for the system. As part of its preparations for an initial ERA procurement, NARA asked the National Academies' Computer Science and Telecommunications Board (CSTB) to provide independent technical advice on the design of an electronic records archive, including an assessment of how work sponsored by NARA at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) helps inform the ERA design and what key issues should be considered in ERA's design and operation.Building an Electronic Records Archie at the National Archives and Records Administration provides preliminary feedback to NARA on lessons it should take from the SDSC work and identifies key ERA design issues that should be addressed as the ERA procurement process proceeds in 2003.
