        The Mysterious Island

        The Mysterious Island is the adventurous story of a group of prisoners of the American Civil War that stole a gas balloon and shipwrecked on a South Pacific island not marked on the maps. The island helps the group in mysterious ways: they survived to the fall from the balloon and found a chest full of necessities, a dog is rescued from a marine beast and they found a sea rescue message. Only two great names of the Italian comics could return to readers the charm of the original work.

Nizzi’s screenplay and Piffarerio’s drawing remain true to the text and to seventeenth-century customs, making the narration modern and engaging, as a comic should be.

The book tells the March sisters’ adventures and their passage from childhood to adolescence to adulthood with a timeless freshness. It’s easy to identify ourselves with one of these famous sisters: if one is responsible the other is volcanic, if one is vain and spoiled the other is shy and patient. March sisters are so well characterized that it is natural to find them on the big screen and among the cartoons of a comic: Nadir Quinto confirms its ability to reproduce environments and costumes and as a great specialist of female figures manages to recreate a true masterpiece of psychological rendering of the characters.
