        Vivo fino alla morte

        seguito da Frammenti

        by Paul Ricoeur

Normative dialectics. A deliberative tribute to the philosophical work of Carlos S. Nino

        by Nicolás E. Olivares

This book supports various readings. On the one hand, it is clear that, after twenty-five years of his physical disappearance, the theorizations of Carlos S. Nino have full validity, because his analysis fills numerous pages of valuable scientific journals. This establishes the common path of a work made by the serious work of a new generation of young Argentine intellectuals. From this celebratory perspective, the goal has been to pay tribute to the epistemic effort of that great Argentine jurist, philosopher and teacher. However, this book also answers to a second perspective of a reflective type. From this critical and creative perspective, it offers to the readers new interpretations, hypotheses, theses and observations of fundamental topics analyzed by C. S. Nino. Finally, from a civic perspective, this work offers quality public arguments for thinking carefully certain problems that are inherent to our current political crisis. Surely, from this third perspective, socially committed, political and republican, an undeniable vocation of service is made explicit for those who see in C. S. Nino a great example of what it means to be a public intellectual.

      • THE DISORDER OF THE WORLD

A SMALL ATLAS OF OUT-OF-PLACE PLACES

        by STEFANO SCANU

Traveller extraordinaire Stefano Scanu was invited to contribute to the book series “Piccola filosofia del viaggio” [Small philosophy of travel] with the stories of places that never stay “in place”, as ever-changing as the wind, the seasons and the observer’s point of view. Places like Mont Saint-Michel, an island or a peninsula depending on the whim of the tide; like the cruise ship Rochdale One, first turned into a student dorm, then into a floating casino after docking in Amsterdam; like the itinerant Royal Bank of Scotland in Plockton, in the heart of the Highlands, one day here, one day there; or like the colony of flamingos at Villa Invernizzi in Milan, a flash of pink inside the metropolis…. Cities, territories or spots that appear and vanish, elude our attempt to capture them, and gracefully feed the chaos of the world.

        Ética aplicada

Desde la medicina hasta el humor

by Mauricio Correa Casanova y Adela Cortina

Pedagoginga, autonomia e mocambagem

        by da Rosa, Allan

“Pedagoginga, Autonomia e Mocambagem" harmonizes with some very important spheres: the philosophical, historical and contextualized attention on what was conventionally called black cultures; the consistent implementation of the teaching of history and culture of these matrices from African sources and heads, black feet and hands, the sweaty dream of an autonomous popular education movement on the outskirts of São Paulo at the beginning of the 21st century. pillars, challenges and also contradictions, and with this perspective, he invites the reader to reflect on the educational practice, so the author presents a new pedagogical proposal, new but twisted to ancestral aesthetics and fundamentals, which implies the autonomy of educators and students , as well as a genuine commitment to Afro-Brazilian culture. Here is a book of reflections, doubts, slides and nin hos on a practice of years in Popular Education whose motto is the experience of organizing and implementing independent courses in our peripheries in São Paulo, focused on the black experience of yesterday, the future, today and that of so many lines, spirals and balls of the time that we weave. The book is part of the Insurgências Collection, which was born with the aim of sharing and revolving reflections and practices committed to different ways of thinking about the world, relationships, ways of learning and teaching.

        C.R.E.P.P.

        by Federico Barbieri

C.R.E.P.P. is the opening novel of a trilogy that marks different periods in the cycle of life. This first volume tells the story of Paolo and Irene, two of the eight protagonists of this journey. A journey that symbolizes the first of the three phases: the Thesis. Antithesis and Synthesis will follow in the future publications. ---  C.R.E.P.P.

        by Emanuele Coccia

Philosophical modernity has focused everything on the city, but the future of the world can only be domestic. We need to think about the home: we live in the urgency of making this planet a real home, or rather of making our home a real planet, a space capable of welcoming everyone. Philosophy has always had a special relationship with the city. It was born there, it learned to speak there and it is within its walls that it has always imagined its history and its future. But it is always and only through the mediation of a house that we are in the city: whether it is Paris or Berlin, Tokyo or New York, we are only able to inhabit the cities we live in thanks to bedrooms and kitchens, thanks to chairs, desks, wardrobes, bathtubs and radiators. Yet philosophy has always spoken very little about the home and this neglect is far from innocent: because of it, the home has become a space in which wrongs, oppressions, injustices and inequalities have been hidden, forgotten and reproduced unconsciously and mechanically for centuries. It is in and through the home, for example, that gender inequality has been produced, affirmed and justified. It is in and through the home, and in the order of property it founds and embodies, that society has been organised in economic inequality. It is through the modern home – a space in which, with a few very rare exceptions, only human beings can stay – that the radical opposition between human and non-human, between the city and the forest, between the “civilised” and the savage, has been constructed and reinforced. Forgetting the home was a way for philosophy to forget itself. One of the most eclectic and esteemed European intellectuals of his generation tackles, with the tools of philosophy and his trademark originality, the theme of the home, the threshold between us and the rest of reality, the inexhaustible attempt to overlap our happiness with the world. And he writes an exceptional book: highly refined and prodigiously pop.

        MUTATIONS: DISSONANCES OF PROGRESS

        by Adauto Novates (editor)

The eleventh book in the series Mutations, Dissonances of progress discusses how the progress of technology brought undeniable benefits to humanity – such as advances in medicine and communication –, improving our daily life. On the other hand, it brought speed and superficiality to the relations of the human being with its surroundings, and degraded several aspects of current life with the exacerbation of individualism, the substitution of moral values, the overestimation of religious beliefs, the economy as the utmost referential of life in common, the knowledge of specialists to the detriment of thinkers. The essays in this volume analyze this situation and indicate paths for reflection.

        La città post-secolare

        Il nuovo dibattito sulla secolarizzazione

        by Paolo Costa

The secularization debate went through a big change during the last fifty years. Could this change be described as a paradigm shift? The volume, after an introduction that deeply analyses the “secularization” concept, picks up and discusses in eight chapters several exemplary figures in the recent debate (H. Blumenberg, D. Martin, C. Taylor, H. Joas, T. Asad, M. Gauchet, J. Habermas, G. Vattimo). Thus, the Author gives for the very first time, a systematic reconstruction of the changes and developments in this debate, ending in a real paradigm shift. The conclusion is however hesitant. It is unclear, Costa claims, whether this concept is still helpful to understand what is going on around us now and is in store for us in the near future. Dissident identity

themes for a new Brazilian history

        by Edgard Leite

In ‘Dissident identity: themes for a new Brazilian History’, Edgard Leite continues the work done in 'Predators', which addresses the Brazilian history from the other side, rescuing facts, contradictions and ideas that, over the years and because of a historiography often biased, remained forgotten. A thorough job and an arduous task which the author is not exempt, but faces; as well as facing certain tradition in historical studies. With a concise writing, the author develops his argument from the idea that, since the Copernican revolution, mankind turned to quantity over quality. It is precisely this world that will emerge from Brazil, since the arrival of Europeans will just at a time when the effects of the Copernican turning shall introduce into Europe. Another important point for understanding the history of Brazil will be the secularization of the state, which is strengthened by the Enlightenment and the French Revolution is, above all, its most acute event. Understanding the relationship between state and religion and, especially, the understanding of the concept of mind, will be central to a discussion of the values that shape - or fail to shape - a society. The book ends with the 1964 event, and the reader will wait that the author addresses in forthcoming books, the continuation of Brazilian history. Always with his provocative and powerful bias.
