Critical security in the Asia-Pacific

In the wake of 9/11, the Asian crisis and the 2004 tsunami, traditional analytical frameworks are increasingly unable to explain how individuals and communities are rendered insecure, or advance individual, global or environmental security. In the Asia-Pacific, the accepted wisdom of realism has meant that analyses rarely move beyond the statist, militarist and exclusionary assumptions that underpin traditional realpolitik. This innovative new book challenges these limitations and addresses the missing problems, people and vulnerabilities of the Asia-Pacific region. It also turns a critical eye on traditional interstate strategic dynamics. Critical security in the Asia-Pacific applies both a critical theoretical approach that interrogates the deeper assumptions underpinning security discourses, and a human-centred policy approach that focuses on the security, welfare and emancipation of individuals and communities. Leading Asia-Pacific researchers combine to apply these frameworks to the most pressing issues in the region, from the Korean peninsula to environmental change, Indonesian conflict, the 'war on terror' and the plight of refugees. Le cas des langues moins enseignées

Dans cet ouvrage, l’appellation « langues moins enseignées » fait référence à celle de « langues modimes ». Tantôt appelées « langues rares », tantôt « langues moins diffusées » et parfois même « petites langues », ces langues n’entrent dans aucune des catégories préconstruites des institutions éducatives. L’objectif de cet ouvrage est donc de problématiser les tenants et les aboutissants des statuts qu’elles assument dans les systèmes éducatifs, et notamment de s’intéresser à la question de la variation linguistique dans leur enseignement‑apprentissage. En effet, l’enseignement des langues vivantes étrangères se construit souvent autour d’une norme imaginée et conçue comme étant celle de la langue légitime à enseigner/apprendre. De l’Asie aux Amériques, en passant par bon nombre de pays africains et européens, les décideurs éducatifs et les enseignants eux‑mêmes doivent composer avec ce phénomène qui, au delà de questions proprement pédagogiques, contribue à hiérarchiser les formes langagières. Au travers de l’examen de situations touchant à l’amazighe, à l’arabe, au chinois, à l’indonésien, au japonais, au ghɔmálá’, au malgache, au tchèque et à plusieurs des langues régionales de France (alsacien, basque, corse, occitan, picard et parler saint-martinois), les entrées épistémologiques des contributions relèvent ici de diverses disciplines des sciences du langage et/ou des sciences de l’éducation. Les contributions s’articulent, entre autres, autour d’axes tels que la variation et ses différentes formes dans l’espace éducatif, l’histoire des politiques linguistiques éducatives au regard du corpus des langues, la variation linguistique en lien avec différents systèmes éducatifs au sein d’espaces nationaux ou régionaux donnés, la gestion pédagogique de la variation, ses ramifications identitaires, la question du couple oral/écrit et des registres en didactique des langues moins enseignées, ou encore la problématique centrale des normes, de la légitimité et de l’authenticité dans l’enseignement de ces langues.

The global changes warranted fastness in food production system and fast foods. In tune with demand, crop production also oriented accordingly. However, the proverb ‘Health is a Wealth is reminded us to keep vigil on system and method of food production and food safety. The ill-effect of conventional chemical based farming well documented and public realized the importance organically produced food and efforts are being made to popularize the organic production. India is a Land of Spices, each state or union territory in India cultivates one or other spice. Since spices form a part of many medicines the demand for organically produced spices is increasing considerably. Assuming a market growth of 10% in Europe, USA and Japan for organic spice products the world demand for organic spices may grow to 57000 tonnes in the next 10 yeaLarge scale use of high analysis fertilizers and pesticides result environmental hazards and imbalances in soil nutrients. Since spices are high valued and export oriented in nature it is imperative to keep the levels of pesticide residues below tolerance limits in view of the standards set by the importing countries. Hence the book on Organic Spices is timely and covers all aspects of organic spice production. The topic includes historical spice trade and importance of spices in food chain. Brief account on organic agriculture movement in the world and its present status and opportunity for organic spices in the world market are given. The chemistry and different methods of composting are included in the organic manures will be informative. Microbes play a greater role in agriculture, a separate devoted on microbes and plant growth promoting rhizobacteria would definitely enrich the reader not only that, the topics on biological control of insect pests, nematodes, fungus and bacteria of spices highlighted in separate chapters would be of interest in organic production system. The importance, composition, uses, botany and varieties, organic way of production of spices like black pepper, cardamom, ginger, turmeric, chillies and paprika, nutmeg, vanilla, seed spices like cumin, fennel, fenugreek, coriander and their harvest and post harvest processing are enumerated. The chapters on good agricultural practices (GAP) and organic certification procedures outlined for adoption. This would serve as a reference book for researchers, teachers and students besides farmers, traders and consumers.
