Although interest in Europe's southern neighbouring continent is growing, too little is still known about Africa. Sometimes it seems almost impossible to grasp even a small piece of African reality behind the thick curtain of prejudices and clichés.Kirsten Rüther deals with a range of topics, from migrants and cities to youth and religion, photography, fashion and more. Anyone who wants to get to know political and cultural-historical aspects that have shaped the history and present of numerous African societies will feel addressed. The book is intended to inspire people to think from the everyday life of those people with whom one looks at social transformations in a researching and discerning way. Insights into personal reflection, science and artistic production will be provided.
Extrect from the Preface: It has always been my desire to tell and illustrate the Life of Jesus Christ in comic book format ever since I accepted Him as my Savior in my high school years. I read His life and ministry in the four gospels and came to believe that He is indeed the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one comes to the Father but through Him. I want to proclaim this truth to all people. My desire in this book is to tell the wonderful life of Christ as true to the gospels as possible and with fun and lively illustrations. Most of the wordings in this book are taken directly from the gospels of the NET Bible. I only added extra text to help the flow of the story. I also used Johnston M. Cheney’s book, The Life of Christ in Stereo, as a guide to chronicle the life of Christ in the four gospels. One of the great advantages of a comic book is that its visual pictures and images can be understood by any race and age anywhere in the world. With proper translations, these comic book stories can reach many people in many different cultures and countries. My hope and prayer is that this comic book of the life of Christ will be read and enjoyed by children and adults in many parts of the world, and many will come to believe that Jesus is the Christ-Messiah indeed.
"I am a recluse and I love books more than I love people." - So begins Fiza Pathan, the self-proclaimed Reclusive Writer and Reader of Mumbai. Within her stories, you'll meet Fiza's beloved Mama, editorial partner (and uncle) Blaise, many other uncles and aunts, the librarians of her youth, and plenty of book salesman. All the people who have helped Fiza along her path to books, books, and more books. You'll also take a taxi with Narayan, Fiza's "Man Friday," to visit her favorite haunts, from libraries to kiosks to boutiques to vendors who pile their offerings on the sides of the road, and you'll learn the plots of her favorite comics, religious writings, medical thrillers, horror stories, activist writings, and so much more.Fiza believes that every one of the books she has read has helped her become the person - and the writer - she was meant to become. A little book that takes a quirky look at the world of sex and finds that, universally, the law is an ass! The Little Book of Loony Sex Laws reveals over 250 loony sex laws and rules - some current, some ancient. Did you know that in the USA in Virginia in the county of Norfolk a law was passed banning women from wearing corsets. The reason being was because 'the privilege of admiring the curvaceous unencumbered body of a young woman should not be denied to the normal red-blooded American male'. And in Ohio, Cleveland, women aren't allowed to wear patent leather shoes for fear a man might see the reflection of something that he ought not to! In China thare is no law against prostitution because according to the authorities: "There is no prostitution in China. However, we do have some women who make love for money." In England...no sex is allowed on the back of a motorbike in the city of London! And finally from Greece...the ancient Greeks knew how to deal with adulterous men. A law was written that if caught in the act they would have their pubic hair removed and a large radish inserted up their rectum. Ther is no record af any repeal of this law!;The perfect antidote to our oversexed world, The Little Book of Loony Sex Laws is a must for Father's Day!
Millions of people read the Diary of Anne Frank and at home or at school younger children hear about her, about World War II and the holocaust. Some of them visit the Anne Frank House. For these children, who are still a bit young to read the Diary yet want to know more, this book is ideal. It’s the story of Anne’s life, lovingly told and as accurate as possible, featuring ten themes: laughter, family, school, war, fear, hiding, writing, keeping courage, being in love and betrayal. A truly unforgettable book.To write this book, Janny van der Molen studied archives, visited the house of the Frank family as well as the house they hid in later, and visited concentration camps Westerbork, Auschwitz and Bergen- Belsen. ◆ The story of Anne Frank, for readers who are still too young to read Anne Frank’s Diary
