Bien qu’il se présente a priori sous la forme d’une histoire amusante illustrée, il s’agit en fait de bien plus que cela - c’est une œuvre éducative sur la transition de l’enfant, de l’école maternelle à l’école élémentaire, transition souvent accompagnée de peurs et d’angoisses chez les parents autant que chez le jeune enfant. Dans son introduction, le psychologue clinique et spécialiste du développement, Dr. Carl I. Rubinroit, écrit : Le passage de la maternelle à l’école élémentaire est souvent source d’inquiétude et d’anxiété tant chez les enfants que chez leurs parents. Dans ce livre sympathique, Aviva Lipstein décrit les expériences d’un petit garçon sur le point d’entrer à la grande école pour la première fois. A travers son héros, Danny, l’auteur nous présente une série « d’instruments magiques », qui l’aideront à surmonter ses peurs et à affronter les défis qui apparaissent dans son nouvel environnement. Ce livre est particulièrement recommandé aux élèves en fin de maternelle, aux élèves du CP et à leurs parents, ainsi qu’aux autres enfants qui voudraient « se souvenir. » Aviva Lipstein, élevée en France - à Paris et à Nice - nous a quitté en 1994. Au cours de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale, elle fut protégée et éduquée par des sœurs dominicaines, et était venue s’installer dans le jeune Etat d’Israël après la guerre. Diplômée de l’Ecole d’Assistantes Sociales de l’Université Hébraïque de Jérusalem, elle a travaillé avec de jeunes enfants jusqu’à sa retraite. Elle a vécu à Tel-Aviv ; mariée, elle fut mère de deux garçons et d’une fille. Son petit-fils a grandi avec ses histoires. C’est le Plombier ! a été traduit en anglais par Ora Cummings, originaire de Grande-Bretagne. Sa traduction a été adaptée aux réalités de l’Angleterre actuelle dans le cadre universel du passage de l’enfant de l’environnement protecteur de la maternelle à l’atmosphère plus exigeante de la grande école. Il en sera de même pour une éventuelle traduction en français. Le livre comporte 40 pages dans sa forme définitive, la couverture est en polychrome et les illustrations bichromes. Il a été publié en Israël par Duvdevan, la branche jeunesse de la Maison d’Edition Dekel. Collaborative Form attempts to show the nature and limits of works of art that are made up of two or more artistic forms. The first task of this book is to analyze and interpret a set of such combinations. Each chapter treats one collaborative work and attempts to show that the principles of collaboration are the same, whether the components are poetry and graphic works as in Lettera Amorosa by Rene Char and George Braque, poetry and music as in Herzgewachse by Maurice Maeterlinck and Arnold Schoenberg, or more complex sets that include painting, music, dance, lighting, and drama as in Der gelbe Klang by Wassily Kandinsky, Morder, Hoffnung der frauen by Oskar Kokoschka, and Triad by Alwin Nikolais.Hines breaks down disciplinary barriers and then emphasizes the effects of the interactions between the arts. The first step, in methodology, is that of refusing to make a priori commitments to the critical methodologies of the arts involved. Each art is treated from its own perspective, and each interpretation attends to interactions of the arts rather than to the contribution of any one art. Once the collaborative works are examined, the book shows that such works are similar to other art forms. They obey the laws of temporal necessity, non-addition, multiple interpretation, and unity that any poem, painting, or musical composition might be said to obey. Unlike other arts though, collaborative forms are unique examples of the combinative effects of the arts. In the process of interpreting individual works and attempting to summarize this form, we are forced to see beyond the conventions of the constituent arts.

Imitation and Innovation in Dutch Genre Painting 1680-1750

Is it possible to talk about Dutch art after 1680 outside the prevailing critical framework of the "age of decline"? Although an increasing number of studies are being published on the art and society of this period, genre painting of this era continues to be dismissed as an uninspired repetition of the art of the second and third quarters of the seventeenth century, known as the Dutch Golden Age/ In this stunningly illustrated study, Aono reconsiders the long-dismissed genre painting from 1680-1750. Grounded in close analysis of a range of paintings and primary sources, this study illuminates the main features of genre painting, highlighting the ways in which these elements related to the painters' close connections to, on the one hand, collectors, and on the other, to classicism, one of the dominant artistic styles of that time. Three case studies, richly supplemented by a catalogue of 29 selected painters and their work, offer the first clear picture of the genre painting of the period while providing new insights into painters' activities, collectors' tastes and the contemporary art market.
