        Philosophy of Freedom

        by Myroslav Popovych

The book "Philosophy of Freedom" by Myroslav Popovych is part of the "Great Scientific Project" series, which collects the works of various authors. Myroslav Volodymyrovych was a great Ukrainian philosopher and thinker, an outstanding personality, and for many years he headed the Institute of Philosophy named after G. Skovoroda. In different years, he wrote articles and essays that were published in various journals in Ukraine and abroad. "Philosophy of Freedom" is a collection of essays and thoughts, which he himself systematised during the last months of his life. The author witnessed many historical events, and remembering them, he sought to understand why everything happened this way and not the other, whether anything could have been changed, whether the past of the Ukrainian people had an influence on them. Popovych searched for the truth, because it was the most important goal for him, and now posterity can find out what conclusions he reached. The topics of his interest vary, but mostly he researched theories and objects, and analysed historical events.

        How Philosophers Fail Themselves

        The somewhat different historyof philosophy

        by Otto A. Böhmer

        — Philosophy for beginners — For philosophy enthusiasts — A pleasant read This truly brilliant book tells of the sometimes sublime, sometimes exhilarating efforts of philosophers to maintain their attitude in everyday life without forgetting the meaning of their own words – and how they ultimately failed to do so. The minor, sometimes bizarre events in the lives of the great philosophers fit so aptly in the picture of the respective philosophy that one has to assume they could have been conceived to keep the associated intellectual giant in a strange and memorable mood. A book of cheerful science, full of wit, narrative and linguistic eloquence.

        A philosophical fitting

        by Axel Braig

The musician, doctor and philosopher Axel Braig considers philosophy a little like the weather: he looks for the right clothes for every situation. Braig is primarily concerned with practical, effective things from the two-and-a-half millennia fund of (Western) thinking, such as helpful approaches in existential crises. In this book, he introduces us to philosophical thinkers from Plato to Montaigne to Levinas and Feyerabend. Braig not only shares his own philosophical biography, but above all encourages us to philosophise ourselves.

        The Derby philosophers

Science and culture in British urban society, 1700–1850

        by Paul A. Elliott

The Derby Philosophers focuses upon the activities of a group of Midland intellectuals that included the evolutionist and physician Erasmus Darwin, Rev. Thomas Gisborne the evangelical philosopher and poet, Robert Bage the novelist, Charles Sylvester the chemist and engineer, William George and his son Herbert Spencer, the internationally renowned evolutionist philosopher who coined the phrase 'survival of the fittest', and members of the Wedgwood and Strutt families. The book explores how, inspired by science and through educational activities, publications and institutions including the famous Derbyshire General Infirmary (1810) and Derby Arboretum (1840), the Derby philosophers strove to promote social, political and urban improvements with national and international consequences. Much more than a parochial history of one intellectual group or town, this book examines science, politics and culture during one of the most turbulent periods of British history.

One Welfare Animal Health and Welfare, Food Security and Sustainability

by Rebeca García Pinillos, Stella Maris Huertas Canén

This thought-provoking book explores the link between animals, people and their social and physical environments in relation to livestock farming, food safety, food security and sustainability. Providing an overview of livestock farming and animal related food production systems in a one welfare context, One Welfare: Animal Health and Welfare, Food Security and Sustainability begins by considering the interconnections of animals, humans and their environment. It then expands into the food production system, and considers the integration of positive welfare, stress, use of welfare indicators and the economic perspective. Written by a team of international experts, it connects theory with best practice examples and case studies from both organizations and individuals that have successfully implemented a one welfare approach. The Passengers’ Hall

        by Ezzat El-Kamhawi

A text that transcends literary genres, this book concludes a path that runs through the author’s previous books: Al Ike fe Al Mabahej was Al Ahan (The Ike in the Joys and Sorrows) 2002, Kitab Al Ghewaya (The Book of Seduction) 2007, and Al Aar men Al Difatayn... Abeed Al Azmenah Al Hadethah fee Marakeb Al Tholomat (Shame on the Two Banks: Slaves of Modern Times in the Boats of Darkness) 2011.   The theme of the book focuses on travel as a human activity and an example of human life. Hence the novel’s philosophical approach manifests itself as an examination of the different stages of travel as a metaphor for man’s journey from life to death. With this philosophical view the writer's prose fuses with cities and travel experiences, diving deep to describe the souls of the cities, going far beyond what can be captured by a camera.   The book contemplates the styles of architecture and the meanings they represent, reflecting on the meaning of beauty and perfection, as well as the nature of aggression that resides in them. It reflects, too, on the meaning of living on an island and the symbolism of water, which makes travel a unique experience that increases the depth of life and compensates us for our short existence.   The writer examines his visions by invoking publications that highlight travel, including The Thousand and One Nights, which he considers to be a travel book.

        Alarms

        by Kostiantyn Moskalets

The basis of Kostyantyn Moskalets's writing is a fine aesthetic taste, a good familiarity with works on philosophy, aesthetics, cultural studies, the ability to catch the trends of certain literary phenomena, and analytical thinking. Moskalets reveals a high culture of reception, the culture that was practiced in the Ukrainian literature by his favorite poets and critics Mykola Zerov and Vasyl Stus. The importance of this essay writing and literary criticism lies in direct, immediate vision, which respects the originality, individuality of all things and encourages reflection on the universal laws of the universe, leading to the appreciation of every moment of existence.

Recognition theory and contemporary French moral and political philosophy

        Reopening the dialogue

by Simon Tormey, Miriam Bankovsky, Jon Simons, Alice Le Goff

The revival of recognition theory has brought new energy to critical theory. In general terms, recognition theory aims to critically evaluate social structures against a standard of social freedom identified with norms of interaction which are freely recognised by all parties. Until now, attention has primarily focused on the categories and forms of recognition theory. However, the influence of contemporary French theory upon the development of theories of recognition has not yet received the consideration it merits. This collection outlines the current state of recognition theory, studies the impact of French theory, and uses French thought to identity aspects of the recognitive process which are often overlooked. Exploring French accounts of agonistic identity construction, vulnerability, power, ethical obligation and reflexive theory construction, this book supports the intentions of critical theory with heightened attentiveness to oppression in all of its forms.
