        Love for Northeast China

by Laoteng, whose real name is Teng Zhenfu, is a member of the Tenth Presidium of the China Writers Association and is currently the Party Secretary and Chairman of the Liaoning Writers Association. He has published ten novels, includingThe Northeast China, The Numerous Armed Conflicts, and The Forests of Beizhang;eight collections of novels, such as The Black Thrush and A City Without Crows; and three cultural essays, such as Confucian Notes. He has won the 15th and 16th Five-One Project Awards, respectively, and The Northeast China has been selected on the list of 2021 Chinese Good Books.

"Never invest beyond theShanhai Pass", as the saying goes. The particular cultural environment and openness make the brain drain in Northeast China extremely serious. However, Miao Qing, a seemingly delicate doctoral student from a famous school, resolutely went northward because she had a personal plan thatwas related to both her father and herself, namely, to design a world-leading large aircraft. Her father once said that just as a poet without imagination must be a lousy poet, a country without advanced aircraft could never escape the fate of a backward country. For this reason, Miao Qing started her career atKunpeng Group, later went to Feiying Company to produce a leading small low-altitude aerial drone, and then sheplayed the leading role in the national G-31 project that designed a stealth supersonic aircraft and made a successful trial flight.

        Ukraine from above (in English)

by Bogdan Logvynenko (idea), Volodymyr Gavrysh (design)

Over several years of expeditions, the Ukraїner team took thousands of photos of Ukraine from a drone. Many different screens have already seen our footage: from Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) to city buses in Warsaw. With the help of these images, we aim to share the beauty of Ukraine with the world. This photo book shows Ukraine from a bird's eye view. Fields, forests, coasts, snow-capped mountains, patterns of city streets – all these shots show amazing diversity and cause aesthetic awe. Despite the fact that enemy shells are still flying in the Ukrainian sky, we are already trying to make the whole world fall in love with it. The book is published only in English and is called “Ukraine from above”.

        Air power and colonial control

        by David Omissi

Air policing was used in many colonial possessions, but its most effective incidence occurred in the crescent of territory from north-eastern Africa, through South-West Arabia, to North West Frontier of India. This book talks about air policing and its role in offering a cheaper means of 'pacification' in the inter-war years. It illuminates the potentialities and limitations of the new aerial technology, and makes important contributions to the history of colonial resistance and its suppression. Air policing was employed in the campaign against Mohammed bin Abdulla Hassan and his Dervish following in Somaliland in early 1920. The book discusses the relationships between air control and the survival of Royal Air Force in Iraq and between air power and indirect imperialism in the Hashemite kingdoms. It discusses Hugh Trenchard's plans to substitute air for naval or coastal forces, and assesses the extent to which barriers of climate and geography continued to limit the exercise of air power. Indigenous responses include being terrified at the mere sight of aircraft to the successful adaptation to air power, which was hardly foreseen by either the opponents or the supporters of air policing. The book examines the ethical debates which were a continuous undercurrent to the stream of argument about repressive air power methods from a political and operational perspective. It compares air policing as practised by other European powers by highlighting the Rif war in Morocco, the Druze revolt in Syria, and Italy's war of reconquest in Libya.

        by Leslie Jamison, Kirsten Riesselmann

Radio Night

        by Yurii Andrukhovych

Andrukhovych’s hero, rock musician Joseph Rotsky, supported the revolution in his home country by being a "barricade pianist". Forced into exile, he earns his living playing salon music. In a Swiss hotel he is forced to perform for his country’s dictator. He throws an egg at him, accidentally killing him. After his release from prison, Rotsky retreats to the Carpathian Mountains, where he is soon found by secret service agents and other sinister characters who are out to get him. His escape takes him as far as Greece – with his raven Edgar and his lover Animé as his faithful companions. He ends up on a prison island on the prime meridian, where he hosts his own radio programme: "Radio Night" – his own label that allows him to broadcast music, poetry and good stories into a darkening world. Yurii Andrukhovych’s long awaited new novel, a revolutionary saga, biographical burlesque and agent thriller set against the backdrop of the immediate present – Andrukhovych pulls out all the artistic stops to counter the fears and real threats with the sovereignty of imagination. Radio Night received great acclaim from readers and critics alike.

Heat Treatments for Postharvest Pest Control

        Theory and Practice

by Edited by Juming Tang, Elizabeth Mitcham, Shaojin Wang, Susan Lurie

Due to the nature of agricultural commodities as carriers of exotic pests, importing countries have employed varying methods of pest control for postharvest products. Thermal treatments are emerging as effective, environmentally-friendly alternatives to traditional methods, eliminating chemical residues and minimizing damage to produce. This book provides comprehensive information of these increasingly important treatments, covering temperature measurement, heat transfer, physiological responses of plants, insects and pathogens to heat, and an introduction to current and potential quarantine treatments based on hot air, hot water, and radio frequency energy.

        Rig-Veda. Das Heilige Wissen

        Dritter bis fünfter Liederkreis

by Michael E. J. Witzel, Salvatore Scarlata, Toshifumi Goto

        Birth controlled

Selective reproduction and neoliberal eugenics in South Africa and India

        by Amrita Pande

This book analyses the world of selective reproduction by a critical analysis of three modes of controlling birth, namely contraception, reproductive violence, and repro-genetic technologies. All population control policies target and vilify women (Black women in particular), and coerce them into subjecting their bodies to state and medical surveillance; Birth controlled argues that assisted reproductive technologies and repro-genetic technologies employ a similar and stratified burden of blame and responsibility based on gender, race, class and caste. The book draws on gender studies, sociology, medical anthropology, politics, science and technology studies, theology, public health and epidemiology to provides a critical, interdisciplinary and cutting-edge dialogue around the interconnected issues that shape reproductive politics in an ostensibly 'post-population control' era.

by Toshifumi Gotō, Eijirō Dōyama, Toshifumi Gotō, Eijirō Dōyama
