Common Sense
Addressed to The Inhabitants of America
by Thomas Paine
Published anonymously in 1776, six months before the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Paine’s Common Sense was a radical and impassioned call for America to free itself from British rule and set up an independent republican government. Savagely attacking hereditary kingship and aristocratic institutions, Paine urged a new beginning for his adopted country in which personal freedom and social equality would be upheld and economic and cultural progress encouraged.

Cold Hardiness in Plants
Molecular Genetics, Cell Biology and Physiology
by Edited by Tony H H Chen, Matsuo Uemura, Seizo Fujikawa
Based on papers from the 7th International Plant Cold Hardiness Seminar held in Japan in 2004, this book presents the latest research findings on plant freezing and chilling stress from major laboratories around the world. The chapters focus on various aspects of molecular genetics and the utilization of transgenic plants to further our understanding of plant cold hardiness at the molecular level. Topics covered include: vernalization genes in winter cereals; global analysis of gene networks to solve complex abiotic stress responses; control of growth and cold acclimation in silver birch and the effect of Plasma Membrane-associated Proteins on Acquisition of Freezing Tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana.

Depression Is not SomethingThat Just Happens
10 self-empowerment conceptsfor burnout, depression and trauma
by Barbara Günther-Haug
A crisis does not make a disease. It only becomes dangerous when we get stuck – in the ways of thinking and acting that are rooted in our fears and desires, but not in reality. That way, we wear ourselves out for nothing; exhaustion and frustration increase, and may even end in depression. This book sheds a light on ten main stress situations that may be the reason for depression. It goes far beyond the usual explanations of the symptoms of depression or individual stories, and is a treasure trove for people who want to understand what has caused them to wear themselves out mentally and how they can lift themselves out of this low.

Temperature Adaptation in a Changing Climate
Nature at Risk
by Edited by Kenneth B Storey, Karen K Tanino.
Temperature adaptation is a much neglected field in the minds of climate change researchers and policy makers. However, increasing fluctuations in temperature mean that the risk of cold and heat stress will pose an increasing threat to both wild and cultivated plants and animals, with frost injury expected to cause devastating damage to crops on an increasingly large scale. Thus, improving shared knowledge of the biological mechanisms of temperature adaptation in plants and animals will help prevent major losses of crops and genetic resources in the future.

A glimpse inside the interior of the human being. Many find the idea fascinating; for others it is creepy or even repugnant. There are still numerous myths and horror stories surrounding the autopsy, many of them associated with primal human fears such as that of being buried alive, which have existed since Antiquity.
