The "Danger" and "Operation" of Human Reproduction

        by Liu Ximing

This book integrates environmental protection, reproductive physiology, reproductive health, integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine treatment, and assisted reproductive technology. It explains the various harms caused by environmental pollution, sexually transmitted diseases and bad lifestyles to human reproduction, and introduces the main assisted reproduction methods today. Technology and its development prospects, as well as some frontier information of medical science and technology at home and abroad, aim to awaken people's awareness of the "danger" and "opportunity" of human reproduction. This is a popular science book that is both scientific, practical and interesting. It can be read by married young people and married and unborn couples, and can also be used as a reference for medical students majoring in reproductive medicine or medical staff engaged in this profession. It helps people to gain in-depth understanding of infertility and improve the knowledge of reproductive medicine.

        Reproduction in Poultry

        by Robert J Etches

This book describes the biological basis of reproduction in poultry and places this information in the context of poultry production. The author has collated and integrated recent information from a variety of sources in order to highlight the principles of the reproductive biology of poultry. This is achieved through a well-illustrated and tabulated text which emphasizes integration rather than comprehensive literature citations. The book begins by considering the egg, proceeds to a brief description of embryonic and chick development as they relate to poultry production, and describes the physiological processes that lead to formation of the fertile egg. It concludes with a discussion of the relationship between measurements of reproductive success that are commonly used in the poultry industry and their ability to reflect the physiological processes that contribute to successful reproduction. The book is aimed at advanced undergraduates or graduate students studying animal reproduction or agriculture, as well as scientists working in the poultry industry.

Controlled Reproduction in Farm Animals Series, Volume 1

Controlled Reproduction in Cattle and Buffaloes

        by Ian Gordon

This book is the first in a set of four providing a series on controlled reproduction in farm animals. The aim of the series is to provide a general review of the literature dealing with the different ways in which reproduction in the major farm mammals can be controlled and manipulated. The four volumes are effectively an expanded and new edition of a previous work, Controlled Breeding in Farm Animals (Pergamon Press, 1983). However, the literature on this subject has expanded so rapidly since the time of the earlier volume, that it is now thought appropriate to published it in four separate volumes. Buffaloes, goats, deer and camelids have been added to the species covered by the series compared to the previous book. All volumes provide comprehensive reference lists and are fully up-to-date. This first volume focuses on cattle and buffaloes. It will appeal to reproductive physiologists and workers in animal production, animal breeding and veterinary medicine.

Water struggles as resistance to neoliberal capitalism

        A time of reproductive unrest

        by Madelaine Moore

This book provides an important intervention into social reproduction theory and the politics of water. Presenting an incorporated comparison, it analyses the conjuncture following the 2007 financial crisis through the lens of water expropriation and resistance. This brings into view the way that transnational capital has made use of and been facilitated by the strategic selectivities of both the Irish and the Australian state, as well as the particular class formations that emerged in resistance to such water grabs. What is revealed is a crisis-ridden system that is marked by increasing reproductive unrest - class understood through the lens of social reproduction theory. As an important analysis of two significant water struggles, the book makes a compelling argument for integrating the study of social movements within critical political economy.

Intimacy and mobility in an era of hardening borders

        Gender, reproduction, regulation

        by Haldis Haukanes, Frances Pine

This book is a collection of articles by anthropologists and social scientists concerned with gendered labour, care, intimacy and sexuality, in relation to mobility and the hardening of borders in Europe. Interrogating the relation between physical, geopolitical borders and ideological, conceptual boundaries, it offers a range of vivid and original ethnographic case studies that will capture the imagination of anyone interested in gendered migration, policies of inclusion and exclusion, and regulation of reproduction and intimacy. The book presents ethnographic and phenomenological discussions of people's changing lives as they cross borders, how people transgress and reshape moral boundaries of proper gender and kinship behaviour, and moral economies of intimacy and sexuality. It also focuses on migrants' navigation of social and financial services in their destination countries, putting questions about rights and limitations on citizenship at the core.

        Birth controlled

Selective reproduction and neoliberal eugenics in South Africa and India

        by Amrita Pande

This book analyses the world of selective reproduction by a critical analysis of three modes of controlling birth, namely contraception, reproductive violence, and repro-genetic technologies. All population control policies target and vilify women (Black women in particular), and coerce them into subjecting their bodies to state and medical surveillance; Birth controlled argues that assisted reproductive technologies and repro-genetic technologies employ a similar and stratified burden of blame and responsibility based on gender, race, class and caste. The book draws on gender studies, sociology, medical anthropology, politics, science and technology studies, theology, public health and epidemiology to provides a critical, interdisciplinary and cutting-edge dialogue around the interconnected issues that shape reproductive politics in an ostensibly 'post-population control' era.

Forty Years of Stage Life -- Mei Lanfang's Statement

by Mei Lanfang ,Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall

Mei Lanfang's surviving literature amounts to more than 6 million words. Forty Years of Stage Life is the core of his works. It is a self-description of Mr. Mei Lanfang's life. It is the most convenient and reliable way to approach the master and understand his artistic life. The previous editions of the book were arranged according to the published versions under certain historical conditions. This is the first time for Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall to arrange the book according to the original manuscript, which is an original publication returning to the master's original intention based on the accumulation of long-term academic research and the revision of new materials. A large number of pictures of Mei Lanfang's stage performances, artistic creations and reports will be added to the book, as well as some hand-drawn illustrations restoring historical situations, in an effort to show and reproduce the radiance and splendor of the master artist and his unparalleled artistic life in a more comprehensive, full, real and beautiful way.

The Quest to Conserve Rare Breeds

        Setting the Record Straight

        by Lawrence Alderson

Since the middle of the twentieth century the world has witnessed a succession of political and social disruptions. Globalisation, technological advancement, climate change, human migration, war and conflict - all have caused major worldwide upheavals. In this light, it's unsurprising that conservation of rare breed animals has been neglected. Yet the preservation of these genetic resources - this biological diversity - is an essential ingredient of sustainable life on Earth, and not something we can afford to lose. This book, straight from the 'horse's mouth' Lawrence Alderson CBE, challenges often repeated 'facts' about livestock farming and argues for a reasoned and evidence-based approach from political and public circles. Correcting misconceptions as he goes, he recounts the creation and development of the rare breed conservation movement, addresses extinctions and genetic safe-guarding measures, and considers where we go from here. Challenged as we are by climate change, sustainability and feeding the world, perhaps it is these endangered animals that hold the answer - perhaps with them, we can adapt to our changing environment and see a way forward to a more certain future.
