When Jenny von Sperber first met Fritz, the gorilla didn’t let her out of his sight. He was already over 50 years old then, but he was still extremely charismatic. One thing matters for the journalist: she wants to find out everything about Fritz’s life. Born in 1963, he was captured in the wild and came from Cameroon to Germany in 1966. At that time, apes were still regarded as a curiosity in zoos. When a ban was declared on the wild gorilla trade, Fritz was already a father of many youngsters. This fascinating gorilla-family saga not only recounts the eventful life of Fritz, but also shows the development in European zoos in handling wild animals. Nowadays, things have certainly improved. But there are still questions, for example, what does it do to us when we marvel at our closest relatives behind glass? And is it even still current to confine apes ... was it ever?
Freizeit? Schlaf? Kein Kommentar. Was wären die Konsequenzen?

Rwanda is the world's premier gorilla-tracking destination and was made famous as the setting for the film Gorillas in the Mist. However there is much to see beyond magical encounters with gorillas: Lake Kivu, the mountain-ringed inland sea; the immense Nyungwe Forest National Park with its chimpanzees, monkeys, and rare birds; and the wild savanna of Akagera National Park. Written in an engaging and colourful style this new edition is packed with personal anecdotes of people and places met across the country. With an emphasis on eco-tourism, there is a dedicated chapter to each of the national parks outlining all the practicalities: how to get there, how to obtain a permit; where to spot wildlife; how to identify flora; and how to identify the best trips offered by tour operators. Rwanda provides the most comprehensive coverage of any English-language guidebook on the market. _x000D_ _x000D_
That afternoon a teacher shouted: Gorillas on the roof! Karen didn't know whether to cry or run; nor did she know that her life was about to crumble like bread crumbs. Soon after, her parents announced that the family was moving. Whaaaat? Her hair stood on end. Leaving school, friends, grandparents and her beloved Guatemala was much worse than if ten apes had jumped on her. But Karen's real tragedy begins when she arrives in another country that she can't even locate on a map, thousands of miles away from her own, with a language that not even Dad understands and, as if that weren't enough, with new classmates who look at her like a freak. She has two options: to lock herself in her shell or to go out and squeeze the lemons that life offers her. With a spontaneous, sharp, funny and agile language, the protagonist tells us her adventures and misfortunes to adapt to Israel and her violent environment, because, although it seems a joke, they flee from Guatemala because of the violence and arrive to a country in war. However, Karen will also discover the surprise of the first kiss, the power of friendship and how wonderful life can be, even though it is not always free of pain. Gorillas on the Roof, immerses us with great talent and in a simple way in deep and sometimes complicated issues such as intolerance, violence, death, awakening to sexuality and hope for a peaceful world where we all fit
