It broadens the scope of research on Frankenstein while deepening our understanding of a text that, 200 years after its original publication, continues to intrigue and terrify us in new and unexpected ways.

Five interviews with participants and witnesses of the Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine events make up the first book of the series of oral histories Maidan. First-Hand Stories initiated by the National Museum of the Revolution of Dignity. Scientists collected more than 200 interviews between 2014 and 2019 and today the project is still underway. Euromaidan, a dramatic period in the recent history of Ukraine, unfolds in the memories, impressions, and reflections of its participants. They share experiences of personal importance which left the biggest mark on them. According to the principles of oral history as a scientific method, the interviews are published with the preservation of the linguistic and stylistic features of the stories, only with minimal edits needed to facilitate reading. The book is for a wide range of historians, ethnologists, linguists, museum workers, and sociologists, as well as anyone interested in the history of Ukraine.

Sie wollen Deutschland verlassen und ein neues Leben in Israel beginnen. Walter Frankenstein wird beim Versuch, nach Palästina einzuwandern, von der britischen Mandatsmacht interniert. Erst nach fast zwei Jahren findet die Familie wieder zusammen. Es folgen die Jahre, in denen die Frankensteins in Israel eine neue Existenz zu begründen versuchen, der Unabhängigkeitskrieg 1948, die Aufbaujahre des jungen jüdischen Staates. Nicht mit uns ist die unglaubliche Geschichte vom Überleben einer jüdischen Familie in Nazi-Deutschland – es ist die beeindruckende Lebensgeschichte zweier Menschen, die der mörderischen Verfolgung trotzten.

Alice findet sich im Traumland wieder. Dort trifft sie auf das weiße Kaninchen, das Alice in seinen unterirdischen Bau führt, um dort nach einer illustrierten Ausgabe von H.C. Artmanns »Frankenstein in Sussex« zu suchen. Im Laufe der Handlung trifft Alice wiederholt auf das Kaninchen, das auch aus anderen literarischen Werken zitiert, sei es von Herman Melville oder E.M. Cioran. Anders als bei Carroll befindet sich diese Alice nicht im Wunderland, sondern in einem tiefen Haus unter der Erde. Dort begegnet sie in verschiedenen Stockwerken den bekannten Schöpfungen Lewis Carrolls: der pfeiferauchenden Raupe, der grinsenden Katze, der Suppenschildkröte und anderen mehr. Wiederholt werden von diesen Kreaturen die Schrecknisse der Kindheit und Jugend angesprochen. Als Alice, im Erdgeschoss des Hauses angekommen, Frankensteins Monster begegnet, erwacht sie aus ihrem schrecklichen Traum.
