        Bridges to Hope

Short stories of unity & love for the COVID era by young adults around the world

        by Robyn Evans

A collection of hopepunk short stories that will lift your heart and your spirits. This is a selection of entries to a writing challenge set by the publishers, all by writers aged 13-18. The task was to imagine life thirty years after the global COVID pandemic, and to send a message of hope back to 2020.    The diversity of the authors—eleven of whom speak a language other than English at home—is matched by their creativity. From the action-packed fiction of magical Vinnie in Boston, from a writer in Saudi Arabia to the moving true story of a Chinese academic caught up in the Cultural Revolution, from his grand-daughter in Hong Kong, the stories reflect a generation who have been globally connected since birth, and have witnessed the suffering that divisiveness and hate cause.   The stories call for compassion, understanding and love for our fellow humans. Weep, laugh and feel uplifted by the hopeful visions of tomorrow's leaders.

        Summer Brook Spring

        by Lynne Lumsden Green

10-year-old Freya Patel thinks it is RUBBISH her family are living on her Gran's farm in Australia for a year. Emma Lloyd is excited to have a girl her own age next door...but can a girl from the country make friends with a city girl from London?    Can people from opposite ends of the earth really be friends?    When Maisie the cow gets in trouble, Freya and Emma join forces to rescue her calf and discover they have more in common than they expect.   Summer Brook Spring introduces the Summer Brook Besties series, a cosy new series for young readers about two very different girls, from very different backgrounds, who learn together that curiosity and kindness can bridge all sorts of differences.    Featuring vivid, diverse characters and touching on themes such as the impact of climate change, this is a thoroughly modern take on the Enid Blyton-style bookseries. Escape with the Summer Brook Besties to a place where life isn't easy but people are kind.
