        Corriger le pied (nouvelle édition)

        sans semelle

        by Frédéric Brigaud

Correcting Feet without the Use of Insoles Pronating flat feet and supinating arched feet are no longer inevitable as we once believed: They are essentially the result of “incorrect posture” and can be rectified. This book shines a new light on the way feet work and takes us past the commonly accepted and erroneous idea that the foot is a block and that pronating or supinating feet can only be corrected by wearing corrective insoles or shoes. On the contrary, the foot’s shape can change instantaneously; it can arch, flatten out, become long or even shorten thanks to its articulating joint space and the heel that can move several centimetres sideways, independent of the supporting forefoot.   A correctly functioning foot assures a proper junction with the ground and optimises taking a step. It also helps maintain the ankle and is instrumental in preventing sprains. Moreover, it increases recovery in case of losing one’s balance and enables one to develop more dynamic support. The new edition of this book refines testing and corrective protocols from the previous edition, which is now out-of-print, includes new information and develops elements from the presently unavailable Competitive Running book, specifically related to the biomechanics of the foot. The goal of this book is therefore to provide a means to: — View the way the foot functions in a new light, in order to regain control; — Correct pronating and supinating feet without insoles or special shoes; — Stabilise the ankle and step-taking, and thereby prevent sprains; — Develop the foot’s flexibility; — Reinforce the intrinsic and extrinsic muscles of the foot; — Develop the dynamics of correctly functioning feet; — Understand the interest of going barefoot to help the feet develop foot muscles and maintain flexibility; — Understand the foot in order to better choose shoes; — Produce and maintain more efficient and correct support and step-taking both daily, and when playing sports.

        Respiration

        Anatomie - geste respiratoire

        by Blandine Calais-Germa

There are at least a hundred ways to breathe... and even more... Why are some ways of breathing active while others are passive? How can apnea be at the same time a period of rest and one of intense activity? Breathing is an extremely diversified action. Most of the time, we are not aware of our breathing, because we are so intimate with it, and because it becomes a part of something we are doing – a body movement that entails more than breathing alone. All forms of breathing rely, in the beginning, on two fundamental mechanisms and their variants, which can differ in degree, and combine in any number of ways. This book proposes to explore breathing gestures: by describing the process, explaining the anatomic systems, and identifying the forces at play through the practice of numerous exercises. The reader will learn that there are no bad ways of breathing, that each, in its own way, is important: each will accompany our movement in certain situations, and be appropriate for achieving specific goals. Throughout the book, the reader is called upon to go against the flow and against generally accepted ideas that have been going around about breathing in body-work circles. This manual is written for all professionals who use breathing in their work. - physical therapists, midwives, psychomotor specialists, etc. - P.E. teachers, water-gym instructors, sport techniques, yoga, body consciousness, etc. - professionals in the living arts: music, singing, theatre, dance, mime, circus, etc. - teachers, journalists, lawyers, etc. - phoniatricians, speech therapists, etc. - relaxologists, sophrologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, psychologists, psychoanalysts, etc.

Corriger la posture et les instabilités articulaires

        by FREDERIC BRIGAUD

Following the success of his Guide de la foulée (Stride Guide, 2016), which sold about 10,000 copies, Frédéric Brigaud explains in this new work how to act on one’s posture, correct joint instability and rebalance one’s body to forestall non-traumatic injuries of the osteo-articular system. A video is available with exercises on the publisher’s Youtube page. Frédéric Brigaud is a certified osteopath and a consultant in human biomechanics; he developed the posture-dynamic and biomechanical approach of the body in movement (EAD, Empilement Articulaire Dynamique©), for individuals as well as high-level athletes. His works have been translated into several languages, including Korean, Spanish and Italian.
