        Filmmaking for fieldwork

        A practical handbook for ethnographers

        by Andy Lawrence

This handbook is intended for those wanting to use documentary filmmaking as a research method to explore subjects and also as a way of expressing ideas. Its focus is practical rather than technical, aiming to complement the many handbooks that already exist covering filmmaking, digital videography, sound recording and video editing. It concentrates on aspects of filmmaking for research purposes at an introductory level that are not so well documented elsewhere, such as the practical stages involved in the production of an ethnographic film. The underlying principal of this handbook is to broaden the application of ethnographic filmmaking to suit a wide range of research areas and documentary expression, encompassing sensory, fictive, observational, participatory, reflexive, performative and immersive modes of storytelling. I have chosen to avoid detailed discussion of technology as this dates quickly. This handbook aims to assist individuals in their personalised searches using online facilities to develop research methods and also teaching, by decoding technical terminology and explaining filmmaking workflows.

Secret Cinema and the immersive experience industry

by Sarah Atkinson, Helen W. Kennedy

This book presents a comprehensive history and analysis of Secret Cinema - the leading producer of large-scale immersive experiences in the UK. It examines how the company has evolved over twelve years from an experimental and artisanal organisation to a global leader in the field. The book focuses on the UK in late-2019, a point at which the immersive sector had grown significantly through its increasing contribution to GDP and its widespread recognition as a legitimate cultural offering. It captures an organisation and a sector transitioning from marginal and subcultural roots to a commodifiable and commercial form, now with recognisable professional roles and practices, which has contributed to the establishment of an immersive experience industry of national importance and global reach.

James Bond on Location, Volume 2: U.K. (excluding London)

An Unofficial Review & Guide to the Locations Used for the Entire Film Series from Dr. No to Skyfall

        by J. P. Sperati

The James Bond films are famous for their exotic locations, matching and even surpassing the settings of Ian Fleming’s original novels. But all is not what it seems! (It rarely is in the cinema.) The gold-obsessed villain’s factory in Goldfinger – Switzerland or Buckinghamshire? The hovercraft chase in Die Another Day – North Korea or Oxfordshire? The U.S. air base in Tomorrow Never Dies – the South China Sea or Suffolk? The chase around the airport in Casino Royale – Miami or Surrey? Max Zorin’s mine in A View to a Kill – California or Sussex? The explosive climax of From Russia with Love – the Adriatic coast or Argyll? The oil pipeline in The World Is not Enough – Azerbaijan or Snowdonia? Those snowy scenes in Quantum of Solace – Tatarstan or Hampshire? J. P. Sperati’s intensively researched and lavishly illustrated book is the perfect guide to the British locations of all the official James Bond movies, from Doctor No to SkyFall – including the sound stage built for The Spy Who Loved Me at Pinewood, and the entire studio built for GoldenEye. Complete with historical information, many rare photographs, indexes and maps. A must for all James Bond Enthusiasts.

        Music in the Movies

        The Key Secrets

        by Lamberto del Álamo

Music in the Movies. The Key Secrets Whichever romantic scene seems to be incomplete without a tender violin tune. A menacing presence of Indianscannot be labeled as hazardous with no fast bass drumming. The brass section might sound like a heroic sentiment and a sax perhaps brings to mind lusciousness. It is not easy to recreate a set based on music. Only the skilled ones can direct images to a magical point in which making the spectators laugh, cry or even tremble in their seats is what music is brought for. This meticulous and enjoyable proposal clears the way to readers who would be pleased to value soundtracks much more phrasing their thoughts wisely.
