Edna Buchman was born in Israel to German-speaking parents; the family immigrated to Israel in 1939. She is the third generation of a textile-manufacturing family, and was educated in Israel, Switzerland and England.

The author drew her inspiration from personal observations of the lives of her friends... single, married, divorced and widowed.
