What the shadows reveal
by Iñaki Martinez
Description
Havana has never been so fascinating…Nor so dangerous.
An intrigue with the flavor of classic spy novels. A kaleidoscope of characters who are moved by interests that are not always lawful.
"What the shadows reveal" portrays a city in which power relations are in a fragile balance. In 1953 Stanley Mortimer, a CIA analyst is torn between life and death in a hospital while his boss tries to find out who shot him. Time is running out, the assassin can try again and in the shadows the dictator Batista, the New York mobsters installed in Havana and the opposition rebels play their cards.
In Stanley's inner circle, a couple who shared days of complicity and danger years ago in Tangier meet again. The love between the ex-priest Martín Ugarte and the famous writer Joan Alison, scriptwriter for Casablanca, which seemed to have died out, ignites the spark again.
The author recovers the charm and nostalgia of a city and the icons of an era: from the colorful convertibles to the romantic sunsets on the Malecón. Dances, casinos, and sophisticated cocktails; elegant men who conceal pistols under their well-cut suits and seductive women who may use their charm to observe and spy. But, above all, "What the Shadows reveal" is the story of a deep friendship and a passion that transcends time and the disagreements between its protagonists.
Can Stanley survive the web that has been woven around him?
How many rules are you willing to break to get your lost love or life back? Maybe you are not so different from the protagonists of this story…
