Based on the wide searching and close communication with each other during earlier stage, this book chooses 49 objects unearthed from the five northwest provinces which held the closest relationship with the ancient Silk Routes before Song Dynasty. Chinese scholars prepared detailed description of the context of the chosen objects and review of past research, based on this, Italian cooperators studied and wrote the items. In the end, there was a fine catalogue to form.
