Typhoid Fever, Second Edition
by Donald Emmeluth, Ed.D.
Description
Typhoid fever is caused by the bacterium Salmonella typhi, and it is usually spread through feces-contaminated food and water. Although it still occurs frequently in underdeveloped countries, typhoid fever is virtually unknown in the industrialized world. Though treatable with antibiotics, antibiotic resistance is a serious concern and the subject of continuing research efforts.
