The picture book tells the story of a little boy living in a tree farm in northeast China in the 1970s who took a train with his father for the first time in the winter, encountered a snowstorm on the way, waited for help, and struggled for self-rescue. The story, though with clear and simple clues, has rich connotations and strong appeal. It shows not only how valuable family love is but also the selflessness and greatness of humans for being patient, resilient, and mutually assisting in the face of adversity and disaster. Furthermore, it demonstrates the glorious belief of Chinese soldiers that the interests of the people are above all else.

Author Biography
Lin Jing is an associate professor and master students’ tutor at the School of Chinese Language and Literature at Shandong Normal University and a member of the Shandong Writers Association. She has been committed to the creation and commentary of children’s literature, and to children’s psychology and reading development research. Shang Jinchang, graduated from the oil painting major at the Shandong College of Arts in 2001 and the workshop of the Chinese Academy of Oil Painting at the Chinese National Academy of Arts in 2013, has been engaged in art education and oil painting creation for many years, and his works have participated in various exhibitions and won awards.
