Author Biography
Halyna Tkachuk is a writer, literary scholar and teacher. Born in 1985 in Khmelnytsky, she was raised in the Kyiv region where she lives until now. She studied literature at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy National University and researched the image of the city in children’s literature. Halyna Tkachuk was an editor of the teen magazine Odnoklasnyk (The Classmate) and participated in BaraBooka The Space of the Ukrainian Children’s Book. She also taught Ukrainian, literature and creative writing to junior students at an alternative school. Since 2017, she has been the inspirer and manager of the literary studio Napysator (The Scriber). Halyna Tkachuk is the author of children’s novellas such as The Evening Shops of Voloska Street, Beans the Squirrel and Midnight Gobbler; picture books for the youngest readers The Swing under the Maple Tree, The Blue Box, The Green Squirrel and My Most Silent Book; the collection of stories Thirteen Tales in the Dark as well as non-fiction books, Schoology and The Book about Garbage that was co-written with teenage authors.
Oksana Bula is a Ukrainian artist, illustrator and designer. Oksana was born on 16 June 1989 in Lviv. She graduated from Lviv National Academy of Arts, majoring in Glass Art. She took part in numerous art exhibitions in Ukraine and other countries.
In 2016 she authored a books series about forest animals such as Bison Looking for A Nest, and The Birthday of the Fir Tree (both included in this catalogue) and The Bear Doesn’t Want To Sleep. In the same year, she also illustrated the book Who Grows in the Garden by Kateryna Mikhalitsina, which was included in the prestigious Children’s books catalogue White Ravens and is featured in our catalogue as well.
