The secret of dark waters

by Tanya Good

Description

In a small village near the marshes, a girl named Orysia lives with her grandmother. She doesn't have any friends, but she is respected at school because she always lets others copy her work. This suits Orysia until her mother returns home and starts to excessively care for her daughter, even walking her to school by the hand. Orysia, who already didn't have friends, becomes the object of ridicule. Her mother's overprotection, the mocking from her classmates, and her own loneliness drive Orysia deep into the marshes, where people rarely go... And where lives the Bolotianytsia—a beautiful and dangerous main character of her grandmother's legends.

It is there that Orysia meets Bolotianytsia, who complains about her boring underwater life, while Orysia complains about her troubles with her mother and at school. What if they could switch places?

This is a fantastical mythological tale filled with love for Ukrainian legends, yet also interesting for children of younger and middle school age.
