John Marriott is Reader in History at the School of Social Sciences, Media and Cultural Studies, University of East London, and Director of the Raphael Samuel History Centre.; ; John MacKenzie is Emeritus Professor of Imperial History, Lancaster University and holds Honorary Professorships at Aberdeen, St Andrews and Stirling, as well as an Honorary Fellowship at Edinburgh.
