Author Biography

ZIRKA MENZATYUK is a Ukrainian writer and journalist. She has graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. Since 1995, Zirka Menzatyuk has been a member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine; since 1997, she has been managing the columns "Temples of Ukraine", "Fortresses of Ukraine", "To Love", "Traveler's Diary" in the children's magasine "Sonyashnyk" (Sunflower); since 2004 she was the author of the column about the holy places of Ukraine in the educational radio program for schoolchildren "ABC" on the National Radio. Her fairy tales are printed in the Ukrainian children’s magasines "Barvinok", "Sonyashnyk", "Malyatko", and in the foreign magasine "Veselka" (Rainbow), that was published in the USA and Slovakia. In 1990 her first book of fairy tales "A Thousand Umbrellas" was published. In 1993 the second book "Arnica"— a tale about the most magical potion of the Carpathian Mountains, saw the world. The book "A Million Million Sisters" (1999) was published by the "Leleka" publishing house. Zirka Menzatyuk is a laureate of an international literary competition in the USA, Lesya Ukrainka and Natalya Zabyla national literary award winner.
