“It's curious that a Chilean would risk solving a mystery of universal culture such as Shakespeare's identity. Our timid nature tends to restrict the ambitions of scholars. Christian Torres Roje, on the other hand, tackles a sophisticated task without complexes, with intelligence and erudition. These essays are based on research that places their author among a celebrated school of specialists. With clear and supple prose, he develops conjectures and narrates intricate and fascinating episodes from the Elizabethan era. He is convincing through the eloquence with which he presents his hypotheses and captivates through the sharpness of his work with language.” Matías Rivas
Author Biography
Christian Torres Roje was born and raised in Santiago, Chile. He holds a degree in Philosophy and Education from the Catholic University of Chile. He completed the diploma program "Who Wrote Shakespeare" (Goldsmiths College, University of London) taught by researcher and writer Ros Barber. He lived in New York and Bangkok, where he worked as a teacher. Prior to that, and in parallel, he formed the experimental music group Maestro and then pursued a career as a singer-songwriter under the pseudonym Nutria NN. His insightful and innovative research on Elizabethan-Jacobean England, crystallized in The Invention of Shakespeare: Christopher Marlowe and the School for Night, took more than fifteen years.
