Teacher's and Students' Guide to the book and audio book of "The Golden Needle"
by Gillian Bickley (Author)
Description
Audio books based on printed books are already common. Usually, however, for reasons of cost, audio books are adapted from the original book, and do not contain the full text. The audio book of "The Golden Needle" is unusual. An audio-book of the complete main text is available. Consequently, it is possible for self-study students, students and teachers of English to use the full text, in association with the full audio book. Students can make even more fruitful use of their time if they listen to the audio book while following the text with their eyes. The audio book helps students grasp the text more quickly, helps them develop listening comprehension skills and teaches and/or corrects pronunciation, all at the same time. On the other hand, if students are using the audio book mainly for developing listening and speaking skills, the text is an essential support. The fact that the audio book is read by only one reader means that changes of voice do not interfere with increasingly ready comprehension. The central subject matter of book and audio book is one of which all users and readers will have experience:—education. The descriptive and historical focus, however, goes far beyond personal experience. It adds new dimensions, and fresh material. These features are particularly valuable for students of English. The core of known material and language provides a secure basis for the acquisition of further knowledge about the subject matter, as well as the acquisition of new language and new language skills. This Guide suggests ways in which both Teachers and Students can work with the audio-book in conjunction with the text to develop a variety of skills.
