The book is a novel which tells the epic story of the khitan empress Dowager Xiao Yanyan as the protagonist of a nomadic tribe to establish a dynasty and to implement system of han dynasty. Through the description of the legendary life of Xiao Yanyan, an outstanding female politician in Chinese history, it presents the feelings of family and country in the historical vicissitudes, and interprets the national integration in the legend of Iron and blood. Imagination and historical fact complement each other. The historical view and description are commendable. In the early years of the Establishment of the Khitan state, the regime was in turmoil. The three sisters from the royal clan married into the three branches of the royal family respectively. They were forced to fight each other for their lover's kingdom and political ideals. Born in a royal family, Xiao Yanyan fell in love with Han Derang, a Han Chinese with whom she grew up together. Unluckily, Xiao was taken a fancy to by emperor Ye Luxian. A coup d 'etat, the prince Ye Luxian ascended the throne, at the same time welcomed the imperial concubine Xiao Yanyan into the palace. After entering the palace, King Ye Luxian of Liao taught her how to rule the country, but Han Derang, a wise minister, helped her to become a famous leader. Xiao Yanyan actively promoted the Han system, and the Khitan flourished under his rule.
