St Mark's Diary
by Norman Morrissey
Description
The 80 poems in this book chronicle the author's recovery from a parasuicide in a psychiatric clinic in the Eastern Cape in South Africa, while the Iraq War is being televised in the common room. Terse, often witty, often poignant, it reflects the struggles between inner and outer landscapes. The book is accompanied by a mastered CD, read by the poet in his experienced, well-nuanced voice.

Endorsements
"St Mark's Diary proves the healing power of poetry by demonstrating the connectedness between the writerly (and self-editing) process and honest self-reflection. Morrissey's brevity of style and sure rhythms - both read as well as heard on the accompaning cd - make this book a beautiful testament to a soul surviving great pain." - Silke Heiss
Reviews
Feedback on this book has been purely oral and intimate, with the late author responding to people who confessed their mental illness in his community, by giving them copies of the book.
