Description
This flash fiction collection titled ‘My Women’ is, in fact, a collection of women’s voices. The voices of those who have been brutally silenced, those who have had their dearest taken away, those who have persevered and fought for themselves, and those who have broken down and given up. These succinct, emotionally charged, brutal and sometimes excruciatingly difficult stories portray experiences of life during wartime, each so very different but equally poignant.
This book is illustrated by artworks created after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. They complement the flash fiction written by the author with their visual narratives, transforming ‘My Women’ into our very own women.
Each of the women who contributed to this book — the translator, illustrators, editors, the layout designer and the publisher — felt a personal connection with the nameless protagonists, finding something within the stories that resonated deeply with them. We hope that readers will also feel similar emotions. Working on this book, we wanted to support and embrace every Ukrainian woman, telling her, ‘We stand with you, sister.’
‘My Women’ is a book about each of us — and for every one of us.

Author. Yuliya Iliukha is a Ukrainian writer, a journalist and a volunteer. She is a laureate of various literary contests and awards, including the Oles Honchar International Ukrainian-German Literary Prize, the International Literary Competition ‘Coronation of the Word’ for the novel ‘Eastern Syndrome’ and the 128 LIT International Chapbook Prize 2023 (USA). Her poetry and prose have been translated into English, German, Italian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Catalan, Polish, Swedish, Portuguese, French, and other languages.
Since 2014, when Russia unleashed war against Ukraine, she has been actively involved in volunteering. Together with a friend, she assembled over 500 individual tactical medical kits for Ukrainian soldiers.
