Morkut
by Aleksandra Majdzinska
Description
Like through a magnifying glass, the author observes the details of swept, overlooked, unnoticed matters that take place away from the main roads. Each story is a fate of an individual person determined by a great story or by small, everyday matters. Fourteen remarkably pictures that are worth stopping at.

Reviews
Aleksandra Majdzińska debuts with a book that touches upon completely forgotten threads, writes down the white spots of Polish culture, returns to what timidly and as part of Aesopic speech appeared in Polish prose of the 1960s. Morkut is a story about those who were never given a vote (like children, the poor , national enemies) or their voices were marginalized (like most female protagonists). The irony of history, blind fate, embarrassing events - this is her element.
Strong drawing, expressive conflicts are balanced with suspended endings and an unclear moral assessment, recurring national traumas and a whole catalog of shame. The core of these stories is history, but understood in a modern way, with vivid, fresh characters, because Majdzińska knows well that she publishes after #MeToo and after recognizing domestic violence in Poland as an accepted parental authority.
Today it is said that those who write in this way do not take prisoners.
