Sonia and Nika are best friends. Yet, they live far away from each other: Nika lives on the left bank of the Dripro River and Sonia lives on the right one. To see each other more often the girls come up with a secret game. But sometimes, one of them feels sad. What would Nika do this time to make Sonia laugh? In this bilingual picturebook the readers will dive into a world of endless imagination, present in each child and grown-up as well.

Author Biography

Oksana Lushchevska is an author of 44 book for children and teenagers. She is translator, publicist, critic and scholar of children’s and teen literature. She was born in 1982 in Talne, Cherkasy region, and graduated from Uman State Pedagogical University, after which she attende a Master’s degree program at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2016 she obtained a PhD in Education at the University of Georgia. She majored in global children’s literature and reading reception. Oksana Lushchevska has authored such books as Z Vody u Vodu (From Water to Water), Inshyy Dim (The Other Home), Zadzerkallya (The Mirror World), Viter z-pid Sontsya (The Wind from under the Sun), etc. Her books have been shortlisted for the  BBC Ukraine Book of the Year and LitAkcent book of the Year awards, and have received high praise from the BaraBooka experts. In 2017, her novella The Wind from under the Sun was included in White Ravens, a prestigious catalogue of the best 200 releasess in youth literature for the year. Oksana Lushchevska is the winner of literary contests such as Zoloty Leleka (2018), Smoloskyp (2009), Napyshit pro mene Knyzhku (2016 & 2018). She currently lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, and updates regularly he Instagram and Facebook pages.


 


Violetta Borigard is an artist, illustrator of children’s and young adult literature, author of stories and art books for children. She graduated from the Ukrainian Academy of Printing majoring in book graphic design. She lives in Kyiv, Ukraine.
