In 2016 America was deeply divided. Republicans had been told that white folks were about to be in the minority party (a party that spoke to older Americans). The party made plans so that they would be able to stay in power indefinitely. The GOP came up with some ways to love America that seemed more like loving America to death. The story of our government over the past decade would make a great plot for a thriller, but it was all real. In 2016 the divide cracked wide open when the egomanical showmanship of Donald J. Trump knocked all comers off the national stage and, against all odd, won the 2016 election. You can't make this stuff up.
