Author Biography
Luma Ribeiro Prado is from Itanhandu, in the Serra da Mantiqueira. At the age of seventeen, she left Minas Gerais to study at the University of São Paulo (USP), where she graduated as a historian, professor and master. She won the USP Social History Prize (2020) with the dissertation that gave rise to this book. She has worked with public history at De Olho nos Ruralistas - Observatory of Agribusiness in Brazil. She contributes to the implementation of Law 11.645/2008 (which determines the teaching of Afro-Brazilian and indigenous history and culture in basic education) by producing and evaluating teaching materials, and offering consultancies. She is currently a member of the Indigenous Peoples in Brazil Program team at the Socio-Environmental Institute (ISA). In her academic and professional career, she seeks to act as an ally for indigenous peoples.
