A walk through the literary city of Wrocław, centre of of humanism and German baroque poetry, place of work of important authors such as Gerhart Hauptmann and Olga Tokarczuk, in the 1920s the nucleus of the radio avant-garde and, since the 1970s, a centre of attraction for outstanding Polish poets and theatre-makers. Author Biography
Roswitha Schieb, born in 1962, has published numerous essays and books on cultural history of Silesia, including "Every second Berliner Silesian Traces on the River Spree" ("Jeder zweite Berliner. Schlesische Spuren an der Spree", German Culture Forum for Central and Eastern Europe 2012) and "Silesia. History, Landscape, Culture" (Elsengold Verlag, 2020). In her book "Journey to Silesia and Galicia. An Archaeology of Feeling" ("Reise nach Schlesien und Galizien. Eine Archäologie des Gefühls", Berlin Verlag 2000) she explores both places and regions of her parents, who were expelled from Silesia, as well as the as the former Polish Galicia, today Ukraine - a region from which numerous Poles were resettled after 1945, then settled in Silesia in particular. Also the anthology "Moved in. Flight and Expulsion - Memories of the Second Generation" ("Zugezogen. Flucht und Vertreibung – Erinnerungen der zweiten Generation", Verlag Ferdinand Schöningh 2016) deals with this topic. In her portrait volume "Cracks. Thirty German biographies" ("Risse. Dreißig deutsche Lebensläufe", Lukas Verlag 2019) numerous biographies connected with Silesia come to life. In 2021 Roswitha Schieb was awarded the Cultural Prize Silesia of the State of Lower Saxony.

The German Cultural Forum for Central and Eastern Europe publishes richly illustrated non-fiction books about the cultural history of those areas of Central and Eastern Europe where Germans used to, or still do live. The carefully edited titles with elaborated appendices are written by well-known experts who are able to present information about Central and Eastern Europe in an attractive way by cultural travel guides or historical overview books. The Cultural Forum also edits an annual and a bimonthly magazine, Blickwechsel ("Change of perspective") and Kulturkorrespondenz östliches Europa ("Cultural Correspondence Central and Eastern Europe"). Furthermore, the Forum organizes popular lectures, discussions, readings, exhibitions, concerts, journalist trips, writer residencies and prize-givings.
