Description
Ariana Aboulafia was twenty-one years old when she was told by the physician that she had six weeks left to live, if she could not survive from the disturbing and mysterious symptoms, especially the devastating nausea and drastic weight. But three months earlier, Ariana just graduated from college, fond of hiking and gym, enjoying the energetic youth like the others and moved from Los Angeles to Miami to start law school. How did this happen?
In this compelling and reflecting memoir, Ariana chronicles her stories and struggle to find the right diagnosis and her fight against a rare disease that almost caused her to starve to death. Told in an accessible and engaging manner, it is not just a journey to get through what Ariana was suffering and experiences, to fully reveal a patient’s physical, psychological and emotional statuses that are hard to be recognized by around, but a compelling and inspiring story about the healing power derived from family, love, friendship and faith, as well as her reflection and meditation about the society, philosophy, religion, marriage, life and the national healthcare systems.
This page-tuner manuscript is completed with approximately 93,000 words, and has a similar tone with the New York Times bestseller Paul Kalanithi’s “When Breath Becomes Air”.

Reviews
“Life After: My Year from Starvation to Salvation is a remarkably beautiful story about life and love, illness, and recovery, devastation and joy — so many of the things that make up the human experience. Not only does Ariana share her story, but she unveils her soul in this autobiographical work of fine literature. She writes in an almost poetic way, a manner in which her words flow with such gentle ease. They wisp across the pages, weaving the reader into a web of a young woman’s experiences. Some are truly heartbreaking to read, while others invoke a sense of gratitude and peacefulness that envelop your very being. She eloquently sprinkles figurative and descriptive language into the text, illuminating her words, making them easier to ascertain and her bringing circumstances to life.
---- 5-star review from Manhattan Book Review
“Life After: My Journey from Starvation to Salvation: A True Story by Ariana Aboulafia is a compelling and inspiring true story of one woman’s struggle to find the right diagnosis for a life-threatening disease that almost caused her to starve to death. At the very bloom of her youth when she should be enjoying life and pursuing a dream, Ariana learns that she has six weeks to live. In this book, she takes the reader on her painful journey, exploring the cause of her devastating nausea and drastic weight loss, fighting despair, and nurturing herself back to health. It’s a story about the healing power of family, love, and faith.
Told in a very simple and engaging manner, Life After is one of those stories that will teach readers to never lose hope, to believe in life, and in their power to transform their lives. The story begins with an intriguing line, a tragic one, in fact, and the reader becomes immediately curious to know what will happen in the story. “Two days before my twenty-second birthday, a doctor told me that I had six weeks to live.” This statement was a powerful hook for me and I immediately had many questions in my mind that needed answers, and I could not stop reading this compelling and inspiring story. It is emotionally rich and readers will find themselves crying, smiling, and laughing most of the time. This is the kind of story for anyone traversing a difficult period in their life, a book for people who are almost giving up on life and on themselves. Ariana Aboulafia teaches readers that there is always a glimmer of light in the stark darkness of our life and that we shouldn’t give up until we find that light. A delightful and inspiring read!”
