La salud pública y la enfermería en la Argentina is a book that brings together problematic issues and very strong debates that were produced ever since the restoration of democracy in 1980, in the social history of health and disease. This book constitutes the first project that encompasses the historic discipline that deals with the structure and consolidation of the medical corporation as a professional group, and the emergency raised by the epidemic outbreak of the 19th century, the study of the emergence and consolidation of the sanitary distribution during the 19th century and the delimitation and implementation of the policies to this field of study. This project focuses in the study of nursing as an activity that has been exclusively related to women because of the natural qualities women have to take care of others and to assist them. During the 20th century, more knowledge, technical concepts, professional areas and complex training places were added to the quality of “taking care” and in that way, the notion of what is to be a nurse became more descriptive and meaningful.
