Author Biography
Pedro Riera was born in Barcelona in 1965, the city where he graduated in Information Sciences. He has worked in television, cinema and advertising. At the end of the 1990s, after a two-year stay in Bosnia, he abandoned his profession as a producer to devote himself entirely to writing. He has published a dozen novels for children and young adults that have won various awards, such as the CCEI 2008 with La leyenda del bosque sin nombre, El Templo de las Mil Puertas 2009 with La criatura del bosque, the Edebé Young Adult Literature Award 2014 with La tumba de Aurora K or the VI Premio de Literatura Infantil Ciudad de Málaga with Cara de otro in 2015. As a comic script writer, he has published two graphic novels on the situation of women in Yemen, El coche de Intisar (2011), which received the France Info prize for the best current affairs and reportage comic in 2013, and Intisar en el exilio (2018), winner of the Understanding the Present award at Splash Sagunt in 2019. Odios cotidianos, (2021) his third comic, written with Aliénor Benoist, deals with racism, Islamophobia and fatphobia in Spain.
Grupo edebé
At the beginning of the 1990s, edebé embarked on a very solid literary project that included readers for children of all ages. Now edebé has several collections such as My Favourite Tales Tren azul, Tucán (blue, green, orange, red) or Periscopio, ... Some of these collections have already reached 100 titles and have obtained several national and international awards & mentions (Spanish National Children’s and Young Adult Literature Prize, Strega Award, IBBY, White Ravens, Banco libro Venezuela, Cento Award...). Moreover, in 1993 EDEBE promoted the edebé Literature Award acknowledged as one of the most prestigious awards of Children’s and Young Adult’s Literature in our country given the solid, skilled range of writers who have already been awarded, in some cases acting as a springboard for their literary career (see the list in our catalogue).
