La chambre verte / The Green Chamber
by Martine Desjardins
Description
All houses have their secrets, but the Delorme family home has a darker one: the mummified remains of a woman buried alive. It is kept in a sealed basement vault called the Green Room. Neil Gaiman meets Lemony Snicket in this tragicomic family saga where spinsters get drunk on vanilla extract, cats are thrown into burning furnaces, orphans seek revenge for stolen inheritances, and houses satisfy their most murderous intents. Winner of the Prix Jacques-Brossard.

Author Biography
Martine Desjardins was born in Mont-Royal, Québec, where she still lives with her fox-terrier Winnie. After studying languages, Russian and Italian, as well as comparative literature, she began freelancing for several magazines. Lavishly written, her books are often filled with twisted humor and a touch of quirkiness. She is a Governor General Award finalist (Maleficium) and two time Jacques Brossard Prize winner (Maleficium, The Green Chamber).
