Author Biography
Olesya Mamchych is a Ukrainian writer, translator and editor. As an author she has participated in a number of anthologies and festivals and co-organized various literary events. She was born in Kyiv in 1981. She published a number of collections of poems and prose for children, namely, ‘A na Nas Upav Ananas’ (The Pineapple Dropped on Us), ‘Tyranozavr Olenka’ (Olenka the T-Rex), ‘Khto Zyiv Moyu Pizhamu?’ (Who Ate my Pajamas?), ‘Elektromobil Sashko’ (Sashko the Electric Car), ‘Ivanna i Vanna (Ivanna and the Tub), ‘Kym Pratsyuvatyme Yasya’ (What Will Yasya Be When She Grows up?), ‘Yak Pravylno Revity (How to Weep Right), ‘VosmySHCHOSʹ (OctoSOMETHING), ‘Olenytsya Bizhyt po Moryu’ (The Doe Running the Sea), ‘Ovva Yak Buva. Abetka z Istoriyi Ukrayiny’ (This Is How It Goes. The Alphabet in the History of Ukraine), etc. Translated into English, Polish, Belarusian, Crimean Tatar, Georgian, Romanian, Russian, Lithuanian, Latvian and Hebrew, some of her poems have been published in various literary magazines and anthologies of Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus, the UK, Poland and Israel. Besides, Olesya Mamchych co-founded BerkoShko, an alternative school project. Her poems are included in the primary school literature course.
