This book aims at researching and introducing the less commonly discussed part of Su Dongpo studies: the art of his calligraphy works. Text and Image Studies established by the author is the methodology applied in this book.

The first part of this book selected five calligraphy works by Su Dongpo, including Han-shih Tie (the Cold Food Observance Festival Manuscript), with the creation and the content of these manuscripts being the main focus of discussion. The second part of this study discussed the influence of Su Dongpo to the neighboring countries, with Shou Su Hui (Gathering for Su Dongpo's Birthday Remembrance) as a main focus, from the perspectives of the usage, the thread of circulation and the level of reception.
