Human & Technology
by Dr. Mehran Shams Ahmar
Description
Human and Technology:
After the Industrial Revolution, human societies have rapidly turned to technological life.
Today, the widespread presence of various technological products and services in all overt and covert aspects of human individual and social life, has led to many issues and challenges alongside to their advantages.
In response to such a trend, philosophical researches after the Enlightenment and contemporary humanities researches had a critical view of the phenomenon of technology; a perspective that can change the equations of the human relationship and technology.
In this book, by looking at different angles of the technology concept and knowledge, to some extent, its breadth, depth, and conceptual complexity were shown. The technology signifies many implications that make it difficult to achieve a settled and long-lasting meaning.
The wide scope of technological knowledge, on the one hand, and the accelerating speed of human experience, on the other, have led to the slippage and instability of its concept.
The concept of technology, like many credential concepts in humanities researches, does not easily give in to a definition, and subsequent findings will easily prove that the existing definitions are not comprehensive.
This means that we are still at the beginning of the road, and we can only claim that we are moving towards more pertinent definitions of the concept of technology.
The book Human and Technology is trying to express the characteristics and types of technology, its relationship with science, art as well as analysis of technology transactions in the political, security, social, cultural, economic, health, and ultimately environmental fields; Reveal the various aspects and hidden layers of the technology phenomenon by looking at the existential origin, lexical and philosophical analysis of the concept of technology,
In this work, various functions of technology in all social fields have been considered.
From the perspective of ontology, epistemology, methodology, and anthropology technology has interaction with all aspects of human individual and social life.
It is undeniable that technology is intertwined with different aspects of the individual and social life of contemporary human
Technology is not an overburden affecting human life, but part of the nature of modern human life.
Human is the creator of technology, however, today technology in return is transforming human nature.
In what follows, the undisputable role of technology in giving and taking meaning to and off human life is discussed.
Looking at the list of pros and cons of technology, it was observed that technology has a combination of desirable and undesirable impacts and consequences.
As much as technology has created opportunities for human beings, and assisted them to solve problems and overcome challenges, it also caused many threats.
This book evaluates technologies advantages and disadvantages in the individual and social life of human beings, and by an in-depth look at the human interaction to technology, examining the rapid development trends in technology, and the occurrence of the singularity phenomenon ( including the inevitable superiority of the power, accuracy and computational speed of technology over the human mind) underscores the formation of a threat to human nature.
Looking at the results of some future studies, research and analysis of trends and scenarios, a picture of the future horizons of technology after the era of singularity and its effects on the human lifestyle it can be imagined that the discourse of technology will continue to be the dominant discourse of human life, and it is a valid fear that different areas of human existence will be slaughtered, and sacrificed under the hegemony of technology or at least the age of modern slavery begin in the court of undisputed power and authority of it.
Human negligence and alienation will cause them to turbulent in the flood of technology.
While technology has a high place in our ontology, epistemology and methodology, it is not the only of human understanding of himself and the universe.
The author reviews the views of famous philosophers such as Immanuel Kant, Karl Marx, Friedrich Nietzsche, Martin Heidegger, Herbert Marcuse, Habermas, Don Ihde, Feinberg, and Bruno Latour. By analyzing their views, he seeks to present the dynamic nature of critical views and philosophical theories on technology phenomenon.
This book will confront the reader with a variety of questions about the nature, current and future functions of technology.
In this regard, the author describes the philosophical approaches of positivism, existentialism, phenomenology, and hermeneutics on the one hand, and expresses positivist, interpretive and critical scientific research methods, on the other hand, to show the audience various ways to achieve appropriate answers.
Technology studies can take place at both the philosophical and scientific levels.
It is obvious that philosophical principles and assumptions are primary to scientific-empirical researches which will enable the extraction of epistemological and methodological foundations.
In the epistemological sphere of technology, we are faced with countless questions that are often interdisciplinary in nature.
Although every research approaches and methods have their own capabilities and limitations, they lead us to some results and answers.
In the final passages of the book, in addition to the technological sphere of human, other spheres of human nature are discussed.
Areas and dimensions that exist in human nature and have been in marginalized discourse due to negligence.
From the author’s point of view, through the flourishing of love, art, and wisdom, new epistemic sources will be opened in human life.
Unconditional obedience of technological orientations is not the inevitable fate of human.
An analysis of the nature and functions of technology shows how the greed for power and wealth under technology coverage has expanded modern slavery.
Democracy still has the potential for protest and objection. It is still possible to protest against social injustices and who have wealth, power and indirect domination over various aspects of human life through technology.
Technology is just one area of human nature’s spheres and human begins should not be limited to it. It is not appropriate for all human existential capacities for connecting to the universe and giving meaning to life go through technology.
The unknown horizons of technology are like a mirage that will not quench the thirst of humans. Technology is not the ultimate purpose of human life. We have to think right about the role of technology in human life.
