Hoor nu mijn stem
by Franca Treur
Description
Ina lost her parents at age three and grew up with her grandfather and his two unmarried sisters, Ma and Sjaan. This "family" treads the old paths of the Dutch Reformed Church, and the young, ambitious Ina tries to climb the steps of God's grace like her shining example, Aunt Ma. However, as she grows up, the social ladder beckons and seems easier to climb. Will she succumb to this environment or does she stay faithful to God?
How does it affect you when you realize others would prefer to see someone else instead? In a short time, Gina, the self-proclaimed ‘best radio interviewer in the Netherlands’, loses her job, her lover and her dignity. Throughout her life she informed herself with the ideas and the inner worlds of others. But what about her own?
In this new, psychological novel Franca Treur gives a voice to women from parts of our society where a woman is not often heard.

Reviews
“Oh, Franca Treur can capture a whole person and a whole world in one sentence!” – NRC Handelsblad ★★★★
“In Franca Treur’s approach I hear a warm mixture of compassion and homesickness. Her style, in particular, deserves admiration. She knows how to allow people to speak authentically. Her sentences are not only nice to read, but her ideas are also worth pondering.” - PZC
“The characteristics melancholic feeling, the unusual combination of liberation and loss, is even better than before. The mini-portraits that Franca Treur sprinkles through the novel are gripping.” – De Volkskrant ★★★★
“In Hear My Voice Now there are ceaseless highly quotable sentences. Time and again, Franca Treur manages to capture a situation in a few telling images, after which she goes in search of its psychological content […] Hear My Voice Now is a novel about uprooting, guilt, and penance.” – Knack
