The global city has been the hotspot of academic research for many
years, but current strategic researches of global cities rely on the general
law of urban development, which hardly reflect the unique evolutionary
connotation and trend of global urban development. Due to the lack of
deep understanding of the global evolutionary ontology of urbanization,
these researches tend to neglect the mechanism of global city future
development , failing to grasp the main lines; due to the lack of systematic
understanding of the important variables of global city dynamism, the
trend analysis of these strategic studies tends to be discrete , not grasping
the core elements of the global cities; due to the lack of accurate grasp of
the dynamic process of global city evolution, the vision of these strategic
research on global cities and its positioning may be more based on
imagination, rather than reasonable deduction based on history and logic.
In short, existing researches on global cities are essentially a static
comparative theory, not an evolutionary analysis. The purpose of this book
is to construct the basic framework for the dynamic evolution of global
cities, so as to explain the evolving paths that show global cities come from
where and go where, perfecting and deepening the theory of global cities.
