This book undoubtedly represents a fundamental contribution to the regional memory of Sound Art. It gives an account of the activities, productions and formative dynamics during the first fifteen years of the Forma y Sonido Workshop, conducted by Lukas Kühne and Fabrice Lengronne in Montevideo, Uruguay, and in the voice of those who had the direct experience of passing through or visiting it. At the same time, it relies on the editions of the Monteaudio International Festival, which has managed to summon local and international artists each year both for the production and presentation of work, as well as the dictation of specific seminars and workshops.

Readers will find here the words of renowned artists from Latin America, Europe, North America and Asia, along with those of artists in training or taking their first public steps. Descriptions of works, exhibitions and creative processes together with considerations about the discipline, historiographic reports and testimonies of foreigners on the particular Montevideo aurality. Details about the design of new instruments and sound devices as well as abstract speculations about listening, matter and space. Soundscapes and urban interventions, site-specific installations and projects, verbal performances and sound sculptures, appropriations, recycled materials and sophisticated digital technology, circuit bending and experimental luthery: there does not seem to be a format, material or procedure that does not have a representation in the chronicles and reflections that populate this book.

Broad panorama of sound art in Uruguay and the region, Forma y sonido joins other recent attempts to think about this artistic activity from the perspective of the region, muddy and hybrid, situated and glocal, with the distinctive tonality of river water mixed with sea.
