Description
Tale is a story about a young boy growing up in a mining village in the 1960s. The tale follows Finn’s life during a particular autumn within the small, rural community, and the effect the mine has had, not only on the village, but on his family and upbringing.
Finn is a sensitive, intelligent, young boy who doesn’t like school or being confined indoors. He spends most of his spare time exploring Tyndale Wood, not far from his home. Here, Finn uncovers secrets about the local mountain known as Mount Shallien, as well as his own heritage.
Finn's Tale is an uplifting story to be enjoyed by all age groups.

I feel that in Julie Sandilands work a new and gifted talent is appearing on
the horizon. These tales are imaginative, engaging and different. I love the
dynamic of introducing friendships and conversations with badgers. There is
also a grounding in the countryside and its delicate life . Both Finn and Ryan
the chief characters in the tales listed above are attractive and caring young people. Julie seems to be able to capture in
easy style the inner conversations and deliberations in a child's mind. The
language of the text is clear and has its own fascination. New and perhaps
unfamiliar words are introduced which should aid the extension of the reader's
vocabulary.
Adults enjoy the books too in fact once started one must read on. The
illustrations deserve special mention and greatly enhance the stories.
Enjoy the treat!
Dear Julie, Daisy (my daughter aged 10) had already read, and enjoyed Finn’s Tale. I have just finished reading it. I much enjoyed it and particularly like your themes of the importance of nature and the environment. I, too, am rather fond of the idea of communication with animals and was glad that Finn did not lose his understanding of, or connection with, nature. It was a rattling good read and I finished it in about two hours. Gillian Galbraith, Kinross – Author of the Alice Rice Mysteries.
