Dr. T. Umamaheswari: is an Assistant Professor specializing in Fisheries Eco- nomics within the Department of Fisheries Extension, Economics, and Statistics at the TNJFU-Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi. With twelve years of experience in teaching and research, she has undertaken four research projects and developed instructional and practical manuals on Fisheries Economics, published 16 research papers, contributed to three book chapters, authored five conference proceedings, and written nine magazine articles. She has been honored with the Best Fisheries Scientist Award by Agro Environmental Development Society, Uttar Pradesh and Best Research Paper Award six times. In mentorship, she has guided four M.F.Sc. students and has held various administrative roles, including Students’ Counsellor, Elected Representative in the Board of Studies (Fisheries Faculty), Technical Officer to the Dean, Secretary of the Thoothukudi Chapter of the Agricultural Scientific Tamil Society, New Delhi, Deputy Warden (Ladies Hostel), Students’ Coordinator, Board of Studies Coordinator, and National Facilitator (MANAGE).
Dr. S. Balasundari: M.F.Sc., Ph.D has been holding the position of Dean, TNJFU- Dr. MGR Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thalainayeru since 2019. She has 31 years of professional experience including her service in the seafood industries, Agricultural Research Service, and State Agriculture University. Served as Head of the Department of Fish Processing Technology, Dr. MGR Fisheries College and Research Institute, Ponneri for 6 years. She has developed about 20 contemporary value-added products from finfish, shellfish, and seaweeds and commercialized 6 products. She published 9 books, 21 manuals, and 30 research articles. She has guided 10 research scholars in the field of Fish Processing Technology. She has received 11 awards conferred by university and scientific societies. She has completed six projects through state and national-level funding agencies and established 12 demonstration establishments as the major resource for various outreach programmes to benefit stakeholders.
Dr. G. Sugumar: former Vice-Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Fisheries University, Nagapattinam started his career in teaching at the TNAU in 1986, has over 30 years of service in teaching and 12 years of service in University administration in various capacities. He was the Special Officer for the establishment of the Tamil Nadu Fisheries University in 2012-13 and later served as Dean of Fisheries College and Research Institute Thoothukudi from 2013 to 2018. Academically acclaimed he won University Gold medal both at masters and doctoral programmes, respectively from TNAU, Coimbatore and UAS, Banglaore. He had his post- doctoral research at the Hroshima University, Japan and a specialized training on Molecular diagnostics from Texas A&M University, USA. He specialized in Fish Processing Technology and Fisheries Microbiology and also has keen interests in social sciences and field work.
He has successfully completed eight projects (R&D and infrastructure) as PI with an outlay of ? 685 lakhs obtained from various funding agencies. He published more than 100 research and technical articles, 5 books, 1 book chapter, 5 teaching & 12 training manuals and 42 popular articles. Currently, he is serving as a member of the Scientific Panel on Fish and Fish Products, FSSAI, New Delhi and Chairman of the Research Advisory Committee of the ICAR-CIFT, Kochi.
