Since the era of Guido D’Arezzo until our days, music composition with algorithms reinforced the need of transversal thinking in this area, revealing in this way the close relationship with other artistic disciplines, science and technology. From this point of view, Composición algorítmica explores difficulties related to the historic evolution, analysis and application of the algorithmic processes in the composition of music. The book is organised in different independent sections that deal with controversial questions and informal interviews with current composers (David Cope, Roger Dannenberg y Rodrigo Sigal, among others). Far from studying the methods of composition that can be formalised through the analysis of certain works, the book suggests an approach focused on the paradigms that represent systems of composition. The emphasis is on the systems of rules, procedures and instructions and not in the production of the composition per se; this systems are studied (through their analysis), explained and applied in concrete examples. The introduction of the concepts in a circular way, practice-theory-practice, is essential in this book.
