Description
The style of embroidery introduced here is known as Huck
embroidery or Swedish weaving. This particular style of
embroidery commonly employs a needle with a bent end to
produce stitching that flows across the top of a type of cloth
called “Huck.” The term “Swedish weaving” comes from the
fact that antique linens, dating to the 1600’s, contain Huck
embroidery techniques and most of those same linens were
found in Sweden. Huck embroidery became a very popular
technique for making charming dish towels in 1930’s and 40’s.
In recent years however, classic and retro Huck embroidery
designs have been catching people’s attention and there has
been a revival. This book offers instructions on basic Huck
stitches and presents ninety authors’ original design samplers.
